Yes, the K2xxx upgrades to CF cards was awesome. i got rid of the hard drives as well as the floppy drives.
I looked this up for you if you're interested. I got mine from SynthPlus on ebay some time ago. He has newer units that use SD cards instead of CF. $140, pretty close to what I paid before, maybe $125. I would highly recommend it because it will come loaded with presets and samples on a 16GB card. Reliable seller.

Thank you very much! I will check out that link.

Yes, the EX-5R was at least half of the other (inflated) listings. There is a small issue with some of the buttons for the 1-9 numbers, but one can easily work around that.

Congrats, I think you'll love the textures and sounds you'll come up with. I think that era of Yamaha synths, a lot of the sounds are like how the Korg Triton/Trinity sound today. Not the way they sound in particular, but they don't sound outdated to me. Play a D50 and you immediately think 80's. lol
I believe this also has the AN expansion installed(I think it came from factory with it, but might be an expansion option).

The guy I sold my Emulator II+HD completely upgraded it with the CF stuff. You almost have to, even though it had a harddrive, those 5 1/2" floppy drives are like finding hens teeth. lol
Thanks for keeping us updated on your purchase.

I would have liked to upgrade to Synth Stack 4, but alas that can only be done in the Cherry Audio store and for that one needs a creditcard (which I don't have), or Paypal, for which one needs a cellphone, or a smartphone, which I don't have and don't care for.

You mention upgrade, how did you pay for it before, and where did you purchase it from?

This may not be as easy to do overseas but at least here in the US, one option would be to go purchase a prepaid Visa card (which I think can or even must be purchased with cash) and use that.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

I think I need to add a boring purchase to my Black Friday madness...need to upgrade the internal M2 drive for my DAW laptop to get a little extra wiggle room for things. Difficulty: my C:\ drive, which is rarely simple, given that the darn crazy operating system lives there too. Should be a nice exercise in watching my hairline recede in real time

I bought Synth Stack 3 from a Dutch store, actually the Dutch site of a German store. And that I could pay by transfering money from my bank-account. It's how I do all online shopping. Updating Cubase will work the same way, because Steinberg is in Germany, so transfering money from my bank-account is easy.

I love how you haven't been swallowed up by the technology of credit cards and cellphones. A great achievement to resist this stuff in the world today.

It's a matter of what I can use and what to spend my money on. I love my computer and also have two old laptops. One is very small (netbook it's named) and the other one I use for my sampler. I once bought a cheap tablet, for some apps, but I prefer my desktop computer for internet. I'm not adverse of technology, I used to have a Psion PDA https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psion_(company), which I loved and still miss. It was very handy to write my diary on during vacations, which I could transfer to my computer when I arrived hom.
