Holy Schmoly..that price is unbelievable! the early demos of the prototype I listened to are excellent..what a great price, which is weird because the Behringer Odyssey retails for $599. Probably see a drop in price on that since it's been out for quite awhile.

Behringer do have a Arp Odyssey clone and it sounds pretty darn good to these old ears. I just picked up a Korg slim key Rev 3 version(used) to replace the full size I sold to help fund my Yamaha Montage purchase.
I was seriously looking at the Behringer, but there are a few differences between the Korg and Behringer versions, so I went with the Korg. On the positive side, the Behringer is Full Size.

As much as I'm intrigued by the B-2600 I'll likely pass. If I'm honest with myself, I already have a pretty solid modular system that I don't use regularly. Cheap as this may be by comparision to the real deal, it's still $600 for something I probably can already replicate, and won't use heavily.
Actually I suppose in the end I would prefer those synths as software.

    ^^What he said^^

How many software synths are too many?

How many hardware synths are too many?

**I suspect the answer is pretty much the same on both questions for most of us who read this thread, but software synths take up a lot less room**

    Yep.

I also have the Expressive-E Osmose on preorder and I know that's due in early 2021...so gotta leave a spot open for that lovely

There is no such thing as to many synths.
Though the adventage about gradually building a collection is, you learn to get the most from the stuff you own.

You're defenitly right on that one. I still have to dive deeper in the possibilities of the virtual modular Moog.

It's the double-edged sword with amazing collections like V-Collection. It's terrific and I am absolutely NOT sorry I own it, but it's hard to really find the time to focus on each individual instrument and really build that relationship. Instead I tend to mostly skim presets and just tweak things a little, as opposed to new sounds from scratch.

I try to create my own sounds from scratch. Done that with the Virtual MiniMoog, Oberheim SEM, ARP2600, Roland Jupiter 8, Yamaha CS80, Prophet 5.
Also created my own sounds from scratch for the Nord G2 Engine. With the Yamaha TX81Z I tweaked some sounds.

Not surprisingly, I love that Valhalla Supermassive reverb! It's already being used on the upcoming Church of Hed album.

The BARP 2600 looks sweet, but I'd still prefer a Deep Mind 12 if I'm going Behringer.

It looks like I am going to be reviewing the MDrummer plugin and new sound packs for my TabMuse zine. My initial impressions are pretty positive. A great Bonham Ludwig Vistalite kit is quite fun. Some of the splash cymbals boast the longest decays I've heard. The user interface is pretty straightforward, but it's quite utilitarian compared to those with a graphical drum kit as a UI centerpiece. Still, it's easy to get around.

The Buchla Music Easel Arturia V-instrument warrants a deep dive. I love the synth architecture, and it's so user friendly for conjuring up fresh patches from scratch. I also love the Farfisa (who knew it was more of an early synth as opposed to an organ?!) with the CS-80 being my golden oldie.

The Farfisa an early synth? Only if you use the added functionalities in de software-version. A neighbour of mine had a Farfisa, I sometimes could borrow. If I look at the Arturia package, or at my Nord Electro, I think of him. Alas he died a long time ago. He played together with a drummer. If there wasn't a piano at the location they played, he hired a Fender Rhodes.

For those who might enjoy a little dabbling in a polysynth at a pretty darn reasonable price:

    https://sonicstate.com/news/2020/10/...n-kickstarter/

It isn't something I personally need but that's a pretty packed little set of features in a small box, at a very reasonable price point to boot.

So hey, who wants to hear a little sob story from yours truly for a change?

I have a Xerxes desktop synth, which is an Elka Synthex clone from the same people who made Deckard's Dream (the CS-80 clone). You know, 'cause when you want to get your "Jean Michel Jarre" on and nail that lazer harp present...accept no substitutes

Anyway, I moved recently to a new apartment and during the rebuild of the studio (cough spare bedroom cough) I decided to rackmount the Xerxes along with a few other devices. They were kind enough to include rack ears with the synth so it was a simple matter of swapping out the wood sides for the ears and in the rack it went!

Only....I reused the screws from the wood sides instead of the separate ones included with ears because what could go wrong? Oh nothing, except that wood sides were deeper than the ears and thus required longer screws. And since the ears were much thinner than the wood sides, the longer screws went further into the case and one managed to push a chip right off the goddamned board, turning my 8-voice polysynth into a 7-voice polysynth in less than 30 seconds.

Let us all pause to share a collective facepalm at the cruel irony of a $3,500 synth done in by a $0.02 screw. Oh yes, the tears flow greater than the lasers at a Jarre concert, yes indeed...

Anyway...currently looking for a local electrician who can re-attach the chip. It's SMT and the chip itself appears ok, I'm hoping it can simply be a resolder job.

Good times, best times, all the times!

Sounds like a real nightmare. The worst thing I ever had with a synthesizer was opening it up late in the evening, when all the keys jumped out, so I had to carefully put them back in the synthesizer.

Yes let's share some of those moments to make battema feel he is not alone! I have done just what you described - having all keys jumping out and, apart from refitting the keys, also had to find all the little key-action springs that took the chance to escape.

Another incident also containing screw(up)s - I believed stupidly I could open what looked like a lid on a (fortunately not very expensive) tube guitar amp. As it happened, the screws held the electronics shelf within the amp and when I finally got the last one out, I heard the innards crashing down... Fortunately the tubes withstood the fall...

Oh no, that's not good John. Sorry to hear you have this to deal with, like this year hasn't been bad enough.
I know you'll find the right person to fix it, and hopefully it'll be easy peasy.

I'm sure it'll be fine...Black Corporation are top shelf folks and I know they're going to help me get sorted out Right now it's less a matter of "CAN it be done" and more "what's the most efficient way to get this done?"

All will be grand in due time
