Just got the Ventris Duel Reverb unit from Source audio.....I might be spending DAYS jamming with this thing.

I love the new development in pedals......these hook up to your cell phone where you can DL an app and download cool pedal settings from the "community" straight from your phone!!!...also has a desk-top editor too where you can save 100's of pedal settings right on your computer.

This pedal has the most realistic reverb tank "drip" sound I've ever heard......beats trying to buy a vintage Fender Reverb Tank unit.....since I play in a Surf Band, this is a great development for me.

I'll consider the Moog One if I end up a multi-millionaire. In the mean time, Arturia's MiniV is polyphonic.

So when synth players perform live these days do they mostly just use a laptop (with software on it) and a keyboard, maybe have a few real synths as well, or is the software synth mostly used for studios and composing? When playing in a live situation is all that just hooked up via a PA system? If so, how do most musicians hook up in the studio--would it be just in a smaller interface sound PA system? (I ask that as I assume they don't want to plug & unplug all their keyboards into a USB port).

...if you think the Moog One promo above has a weird touch to it (understatement), it's intended as a nerdy nod towards their Polymoog promo from the 70s....

    Behringer Model D,
How does it compare to the real thing?
    It cost only a fraction.

I've seen people use soft synths on a laptop for live performance. For recording, most people use the soft synth as a plug in for their DAW software.

Maybe just a coincidence, but in my experience I've seen quite a few electronica/ambient/synthwave bands that use laptops successfully. On the flip side, there are several progressive rock-type bands I've seen use laptops for various purposes and had things go pretty badly. IMHO...if the laptop is an instrument in and of itself (i.e. electronica/synthwave) then it is probably pretty successful. If someone is using a laptop to try and emulate a larger rig setup with lots of routings and patch switches...maybe not quite as successful.

Obviously a generalization, but just something I've noticed.

For myself, I prefer stable setups, and frankly prog rock bands are kind of expected to have big honking keyboard rigs so I do everything with "real" synths, both onstage and for recording. In very specific cases, I may use a soft synth or the like for something, but then I load those sounds/samples into a Fantom for performance use.

So, random admission...a year in, and I've decided to go ahead and find the Andromeda a new home

It's a beautiful instrument, but I've never really been able to form a "relationship" with it beyond just noodling on a few sounds. Pretty sure most of you who work with synths can appreciate that sentiment: some instruments really connect with you, and you always want to me mucking about with it. Others, they may be amazing but for whatever reason they just don't ignite your creativity.

So, Andromeda was a bit of a bust for me. I'm sure someone else will appreciate it tho

I loved my Andromeda, back some years ago I was able to buy a new one from Noisebug in Pomona.
I think it excels in some synth categories(pads) and unique textures, but for me at least, it was hard to get snappy envelopes and I thought there wasn't much of a change when using filter and resonance, the filters weren't WOW! but they did have their own flavor.

It's funny as time goes by, they're getting more respect and seem more in demand than when they were made.
Good luck on your sale John, I've been using Reverb to sell gear lately, and it's a lot nicer room to sell in. Sometimes you have to wait longer for a sale, but the people I've met harken back to the old days when buyer and seller talk about gear during the sale.

Just sold my Fostex A8 reel to reel and have the Tascam 308B analog mixer up for local pickup(it's huge and heavy). Just received my new Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 audio interface(step up from Scarlet 18i8). Enough inputs/outputs for my gear, plus I can route the outs to my external processors and avoid having to buy a mixer. Will be pretty much in the box(Cubase) from now on.

I own one, sounds real good. I never owned a real mini, but from the reviews I have read it matches the sound fairly closely. What may be different is that it is a small desktop item so it may not match the same user experience and interactivity of a full size mini with a nice keyboard.

I think you need to have it set up so it's fairly close to you. The knobs are bigger than the Roland Boutique units so I think it's not bad.

$1,000? Sure, plus $1,900 shipping and handling and you've got a deal

Only if that means you'll hand-deliver it after a lovingly cushioned transport inside a foam-lined capsule inside your RV. You're taking the kids to Disneyland, right?

Yeah...I've got Omnisphere 1 and it is probably one of the most impressive soft synths I've used in terms of "out of the box" style sounds. I find it a bit tedious to edit but the factory set is good enough that it's still a great tool.

My absolute favourite synth - SW as well as HW. The new version with "hardware profiles" adds a lot of possibilities, including getting a more hands-on feel (I use my P12 as integrated HW controller)! I've been using it since it´s origin in Atmosphere and have still to get deep with many of its' features. The "Out of the box" features are impressive, that's true, but there are lots to discover going deep!
