We have a 5-year-old who loves movies. I don't know if these are the "best" among Beatles covers, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear fresh takes on a couple of Beatles songs in recent films.
Regina Spektor, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," from "Kubo and the Two Strings."
Jennifer Hudson, "Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight," from "Sing."
"You'll never see her smile again."
Christ, it was 1998 when I first became aware of Myracle Brah. Yep, that's the name. It's really one songwriter (Andy Bopp of Baltimore, MD) with a killer studio band. I'd just joined my first email list (power pop) and this album was all the rage. "What do you mean you've never heard of Myracle Brah!"
This song is just so, so freaking early John Lennon. I love this song. Desert island song. Me Tarzan.
No idea why, but I have always thought this entertaining:
Some more who are pretty good with "that" sound -
This one's worth the long intro
A terrific Beatle's song cover
If you really dig some faux Fab this is a real good one - these guys were 4 St Louis lads in their teens, scored an opportunity to jet off to London '68, make a record in Abbey Road using much of the same equipment as those other guys - they have a great story that's worthy of a motion picture http://www.aerovons.com/aerovons_main.html
I don't think that's true. In fact, they were fans of his original band that appeared in Magical Mystery Tour. Yes, there was some concern with a song or two from the Rutles being a bit too close, but they didn't even own the rights to the music at the time and, as far as I know, there were no lawsuits.
"The White Zone is for loading and unloading only. If you got to load or unload go to the White Zone!"
^That's my understanding of it too. In fact I recall Innes saying in an interview that Harrison tried to help him with the copyrights later- he even appeared in the film, after all.
