Thread "Moved to Off-Topic", mmmmm.... was Mouzon less "prog" than Rick Parfitt ? One more proof that A.M never received the recognition he desserved. A fantastic fusion drummer in the same league as B.Cobham, L.White,... but sadly underrated. His work with Larry Corryel's 11th House is incredible. A big loss. R.I.P Alphonse.

Rest in peace. I'm running out of words to say; this has been such a devastating year. I have many albums Alphonse played on. I will play one.

    Godspeed Alphonse.

Will always remember driving up to the London Ale house in Wildwood NJ for a 11th house concert 1974 or so. Out front catching a smoke was Alphonse, unmistakable in his hat and scarf styling to the 9's.

    Excellent early jazz/rock pioneer.
Saw him a long time ago a few times.
His work for me, especially on those early Weather Reports (the live DVD on Voiceprint and the live session with Surman) are really excellent.

As was his work on that session posted above with Albert Mangelsdorff; wow.

I used to listen to that tune a lot back in the day. Al's only funky number thanks to the rhythm section!

A fine tune from a wonderful album. Al always picked great players.
Alphonse had a great touch to go along with his power.

RIP. An amazing drummer. He could go toe-to-toe with Billy Cobham on the technical front, but he was a hell of a lot funkier, in my opinion. I was privileged to see him play in a one-off Eleventh House reunion show opening for Return to Forever at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland back in 2008. Never got any other opportunities to see him play live, unfortunately.

    I saw that too!

    Was it a 'one off'?

It wasn't for the entire RTF reunion tour?

I'm not aware of Mouzon ever playing for RTF...

He did play for the Stanley Clarke Trio with Hiromi, though
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
