    Your prog-picks of 2016

    Folks

I guess we're all putting together our lists before the end of the year (and I don't necessarily mean Xmas pressie lists ), so I thought I'd get mine up and off during some down time:

    https://momentstransition.wordpress....16-my-top-ten/

There's a brief paragraph on each of my choices, each accompanied by Youtube clip for the curious.

Thanks to everyone here who took the time to visit my blog this year and best wishes for the festive season.

I honestly haven't bought much prog this year but the one album that really bowls me over is Bent Knee - Say So.
I sure hope they stay around for a while.

Deus Ex Machina - Devoto , been spinning that one a lot.

My #1 pick of the year is going to be David Bowie - Blackstar (and it's prog enough for me)

I am really enjoying Rachel Flowers first release, thought I don't think it truly qualifies as prog. More like a classical/jazz crossover.

Glass Hammer - Valkyrie is far and away my favorite prog release of 2016
Frost*'s "Falling Satellites" and Anderson/Stolt were both solid as well

  6. #6
    David Bowie

    Nothing comes close.

This is my list for Progradar, though we weren't constrained to choosing prog albums only. Marillion's F.E.A.R. took the #1 spot, easily.

I'm glad to see that the new Riverside is making people's lists. It wasn't Top 10 for me, but I like it, and I was afraid that many would overlook it due to it's ambient-electronic content.

I suppose the top of my list would be Mythic Sunship's Ouroboros.

I haven't finished absorbing all of the 2016 releases yet
I'll prolly post my list in January
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

I second that, its a great release.

My pick for best prog release is actually only half the release: Schooltree Heterotopia disc 1 is tremendous.

Also noteworthy are Big Big Train's live album A Stone's Throw from the Line and the new Kansas.

You listened to this 5 or 6 times to get a good measure of it? I think I've listened to it once on total, it's great, but man, 6 and a half hours!!
