Joni Mitchell - The Hissing of Summer Lawns
Imogen Heap - Speak For Yourself
    Nik Kershaw - The Works
Steely Dan - The Royal Scam

Kings X - Gretchen Goes to Nebraska
    The Rembrandts - Untitled
    Tommy Emmanuel - Only
    The Tubes - Outside Inside
    10cc - Bloody Tourists
Earth Wind and Fire - I Am
Tower of Power - Live and in Living Color

Instead of Bloody Tourists by 10cc, why not Original Soundtrack or Deceptive Bends from the same group? OS and DB each feature a multi-part epic.

I'm not sure I've ever seen The Rembrandts mentioned here, but they made some very high quality, well written pop music. Loved the two part vocal harmonies and the playing wasn't too shabby either! I was never crazy about the theme song from the TV show, "Friends" (or the show itself... and unfortunately, I had long term relationships with a couple of women that loved it), but everything on that "Untitled" album was really good!

Actually, I've never heard "Original Soundtrack," being the non-completist kinda guy that I am. I heard "Deceptive Bends" once, but didn't like it as much as the two 10cc albums I have, "How Dare You" and "Bloody Tourists." To me, HDY almost qualifies as prog and since the OP was asking for "non-prog," I chose BT. Though it's not a highly popular opinion amongst the 10cc fans here, I love that album!

Hey Progtopia, I haven't heard Map of the Floating City yet - how do you like it and where do you rank it. My fave Dolby is Flat Earth then Aliens Ate My Buick. Of course Astronauts and Heretics is great too.

I thought the OP was asking for "prog" albums by non-prog artists? I've never thought of 10cc as a prog band, but they are still great in my book.

Sufficiently Breathless I agree is close but not prog.

Debut Album is one of the most proto-prog albums I've ever heard! Time sig changes that work and aren't done for show, as well as the subject matter. C'mon!!

And he listed Captain Beyond's first album, which imo IS prog, and that's what I said! Read it again.

Is The La the group that did There She Goes Again?

Funkadelic - Maggot Brain, Cosmic Slop, Standing on the Verge of Getting it On, Let's Take it to the Stage

Wonderful, fantastic stuff. And much of it is small-p progressive.

I suppose some instrumental Haindling would fit here.
