Debut album from Rachel Flowers - Listen

Rachel Flowers is very excited to tell you that her first album, Listen, is now available!

Is it jazz? Is it classical? Is it rock?

    Yes!

Continuing in the tradition of her idols Keith Emerson and Frank Zappa, Rachel creates music that defies the boundaries of categorization.

Rachel invites you to sit back and Listen.

Just listened to "Goes to Eleven"... it's been a long time since I enjoyed a piece in this way. In places it made me think of Jeff Beck's Diamond Dust off of Blow by Blow (composition and arrangement wise)... which is no small compliment. Music isn't dead folks. She is showing us what she hears from her influences.. and it is grand. In fact a lot of what was wonderful about the 70s I find present here. Very organic, but at the same time reaching all over the place in an inspired way. Deep. She is such a surprising and unexpected source for a gem like this. I hope she becomes a revolution! I'm buying !! Viva la Rachael !!!

Even though he wasn't among those name-checked (Claude Debussy, Jaco Pastorius, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Esperanza Spalding, George Cables and Taylor Eigsti), the first couple minute of the opening track brought to mind Pat Metheny. And that's meant as a compliment.

Its an amazing piece of work. I'm very impressed by the depth in the compositions and of course her performance is excellent. Its not overtly prog but prog infuses the whole thing as does jazz/jazz fusion. I think just about everyone who reads PE will enjoy it. Highly recommend you buy it.

Greg's Favorite reminds me of Vince Guaraldi's "Skating" from a Charlie Brown Christmas. I bought the FLAC file and will buy the CD also when I get paid again.

Dawn Points is a stunningly beautiful soundtrack. Very spacious and flowing.
Run For Miles has a very aggressive Pat Metheny flow to it as well. The trumpet (keyboard) solo is amazingly realistic. I had to check the credits to make sure that wasn't a real trumpet.
I've never heard a keyboard voice capture true brass timbre that accurately. There are numerous time signature changes here as well. I can't think of another artist with this much compositional depth and maturity on their debut album.

I fully expect to hear "Goes To Eleven" on the Canvas Prog Hour soon. This is your cuppa java, Matt.

Heard the three free tracks on Bandcamp and immediately bought the record. Look forward to listening to this.

The Gregs Favorite track reminds me of the first Return To Forever album. I can deal with that, will purchase the cd.

It's that actually what it's called "Greg's Favorite Track", or does it have a different title?

Rachel said Greg Lake liked this song best when he heard some ideas she was developing. It's actually called Greg's Favorite.

I knew that, but it's still an odd title. What if she writes another song that Greg likes better?

The title is "Greg's Favorite." It does not have "track" in the title.

Greg's More Favoritisted. In light of the possibility that the first is still a favorite and the second more so.
