Watched about 1/2 of a live concert on YT, I think from 72. Guy was great! And so was his assistant guitarist.

During my "folkie" period in the 60s, I probably sang more Lightfoot covers than Dylan & Ochs combined (writing was never my forte), and he remains my favorite folk artist ever. "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" still gives me chills every time I hear it, and I'm not even Canadian.

Very happy birthday to a lyrical and melodic genius.

Yeah, he's one of a kind for sure. An iconic Canadian to the very core.

The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Thanks Gordon

Not a fan, but happy birthday to a national treasure of Canada.

Some folks in Michigan still listen to "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" every November 10th.

My wife and I saw him in 2009.
His first tour after recovering from a stroke.
We were impressed with the performance. Solo and 90 minutes.
    That is one tough guy.

I agree with your assessment of the song, but you should thank British folksinger Ewan MacColl for writing that one.

    Happy birthday Gordo!

I always liked Burton Cummings imitation of Gordon Lightfoot covering "Maggie May". According to Burton, Gordon and his manager saw Burton in a club on a solo tour and Burton did the bit. Gordon said, "I don't sound anything like that" and his manager said, "Gordon, you sound EXACTLY like that!"

"Don Quixote" is a great song. I've always enjoyed his music.
