I've listened to City of the Sun and Contrapasso both, and I'm convinced I need to own both. I liked Contrapasso slightly better, but that is with listening to each just once.

Playing through Contrapasso yesterday it strikes me as a more uneven release, yet what's good there is absolutely on par with the best from CotS. Those final three minutes of "God Left Us for a Black-Dressed Woman" are hard to beat, though.

Those 3 minutes pretty much sold me on the album.

Listened to the first track on CotS. I'm on board now. I'll get this one, too.

I've suddenly decided to attend a 25-year anniversary concert of Enslaved this upcoming Friday in Bergen, and they've brought in Seven Impale to open for them. I wasn't aware of the event until a few hours ago. Haven't been to Bergen in two and a half years (I was supposed to go there a month or so back, but had to cancel the trip at the last minute), but I actually haven't visited Hulen in nearly 15! Really looking forward to this.
Hulen was established in 1969 and is a legendary student venue in Bergen, installed in an underground air raid shelter and donning all the feats of such a place. It's by far the most prolific concert space I've frequented, especially during the years 1991-97 when I saw literally hundreds of acts there - some local, some Norwegian at large and lots of international ones who were once obscure and went on to greater things. Too many to mention, but names like Melvins, US Maple, Babes in Toyland, Zeni Geva, High Llamas, M.D.C., Ride, Dead Moon, Melt Banana, L7, Will Oldham, Extreme Noise Terror and Current 93 stand out. I believe I saw Motorpsycho at least on a dozen occasions at Hulen, the first time being just prior to the release of the Soothe EP in '92.
Strange going back there.

That is an interesting pairing, and a show I'd love to see. Let us know how it is.
^ Will do.
Who knows - perhaps they'll play some Asia?

Sounds like a great pairing, and a fun night. Enjoy the show, and give us a review. It's funny, I just thought that this is one of the reasons that I miss NEARfest. In North America, that festival would be a strong contender to book a band like Seven Impale.
