I blame Wynton, what was the question?

My favorite?
Probably either Mingus at Antibes or Charles Mingus Plays Charles Mingus, which are variations of the same band (Charles, Danny, Eric Dolphy, Ted Curson with Booker Ervin added at Antibes). and the same time period.
and, my god, there's film....

Mingus is an artist I definitely need to explore more. You sound like me when people tell me that Apostrophe is the best Zappa album or that Aqualung is the best Tull. Currently I have Ah Um, Oh Yeah, and My Children Shall Hear Music.

None of those 3 are in the top 10, imo.
IMO: your next purchases should be any of the following:
Pithecanthropus Erectus *
East Coasting
Presents Charles Mingus *
at The Bohemia
Blues & Roots
Black Saint *
Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus *
At Antibes *
Tijuana Moods *
ANY of the shows from the big tour with Dolphy in 64 * (there are 5-6 legit ones and an additional 5-6 not legit ones) (make sure what you buy has GOOD SOUND). Maybe go with In Europe 1 & 2 (on Enja) or Town Hall Concert - both great, although Town Hall has edits - they are cool edits, but they make it not *really* a live document)
start with any of those (and esp any marked *)

My exciting brand new acquisitions:
Aranis - Rock In Opposition Festival (2009, France - Carmaux)
Astor Piazzolla - The Lausanne Concert (1989)
Dave Brubeck - Time Out
Forgas Band Phenomena - Acte V
And according to suggetions, Gogo Penguin is still the next on targetCuriously I think these days I've behaved as a 'fully acoustic music afifionado'
, albeit FBP is an exception.

Fine choice, Forgas. A stunning composition-based, Canterbury-esque band.![]()
