Been wanting to hear it; how do you like it, Reid? I have the debut and I think it's great; even started a thread about it here, but it sunk like a pair of cement boots. They call their music "progressive bluegrass" and I'd have to agree, at least on that first album. "Antifogmatic" was the follow-up, right?

I want to hear that one too! Of the two times I heard Jim Hall live, one of them was as a duo with (bassist) Red Mitchell. They swung their butts off! It was so quiet that if anybody in the room talked, it would've ruined the whole thing. But nobody did, they were too transfixed!

It's very good, Ernie. Some of the material sounds influenced by pop songwriting, and some of the other tunes are more bluegrass oriented. Mandolinist Chris Thile also has a new duo CD with bassist Edgar Meyer. I posted one tune in the Now Playing thread. These two sound really great together.

PS I'll be picking up the latest Punch Brothers CD as well. I listened to some of it on YouTube, and it sounds excellent!

That was true of the debut, but there were jazz and classical influences too. There's a 40+ minute suite that has complex fugues and all kinds of stuff going on that had little to do with bluegrass aside from the traditional instrumentation. What little material I've heard from them since doesn't seem quite as bold, but I haven't really heard enough to judge. I have to catch up with their output one of these days. I hope Chris Thile hasn't dropped The Punch Brothers now that Nickle Creek has reunited. Speaking of NC, I'd like to hear their new one too.

The other albums are more song oriented, but the material is very good! I will give a listen to some of their debut. Thanks!
