Just had an out-of-body spiritual experience with "Dirty Boy", and actually disc two is still cranking. Riding a top shelf buzz too, and lights off and wife/kids gone. Be jealous. This band is like the next Beatles, but way fuckin better. I'm sure I'd get in trouble by some crazy Liverpool Beatles-tatooed nutsacks or similar (I am actually both an Everton and Liverpool FC fan, if such an entity can even exist) if they heard me saying that. But like Frank says, they can have themselves a squat on the cosmic utensil.

Maybe not for an Englishman (though PeterG's example suggests otherwise), but I always found it a bit odd when foreign fans of a football club inherit all the stereotypes from the original support community. Myself, I'm a lifelong Liverpool fan, but Everton is actually a nice enough team and I kinda wish them luck except in the derby. Don't get me started on Man United thoughOriginally Posted by NogbadTheBad
I think it's about part of wanting to fit in and be a part of the community, since you are isolated from it. Geographic rivalries are missing something when you're not from one of the places, but I think it ties into any sports fandom. Even if you start supporting your local team when you're a kid, there is still a large amount of history and fan culture to absorb that you never had the chance to experience for yourself until you became a fan, and it's only natural to pick it up in an attempt to fit in and be a fan on equal footing.
I've never been to England, but over the last six years or so I've become a die-hard EPL fan. At first you get excited for the local derbies because it's hyped up in the media and with your team's fans, and is a talking point for the game's commentary. Over time if you're a really committed fan, I can see how you develop a similar mindset.
For myself, I never used to really care about Liverpool, and would even watch their games as a casual fan. My Australian friend who really got me into football followed Liverpool because of Harry Kewell, but not much more past that, so I'd take a passing interest. But when I became an Everton in earnest, that started to change A lot of that is down to being a football fan in general and not liking the way the organization has conducted itself over the last few years. It also really doesn't help that they're owned by the Red Sox, so they now have a horrible contingent of glory hunting Americans from one of our worst sports fanbases running around here

There's a lot of truth to that I guess, and it also nicely explains why I never project the common views of a certain fanbase on myself - precisely because I never wanted to be a part of any community (even prog fans - there, I said it ). Guess it has something to do with my upbringing in a country where it was all about a collective rather than an individual, so ever since my puberty I really feared joining any subculture, fanbase or any other kind of community that would require automatically accepting its rules and/or stereotypes.Originally Posted by Pr33t
Yeah, I hear you there - is there anything in life better than EPL? Just a few things probably! I'm totally obsessed about it and could probably name all the squads down to every substitute if someone wakes me up in the night. Well, maybe the newly promoted clubs are an exception, 'cause I haven't yet seen them much, but to the time of the boxing day I'm sure I'll know them by heart as well!I've never been to England, but over the last six years or so I've become a die-hard EPL fan.
A typical gimmick from the Russian 90s, the craziest time and place one could live in, they actually showed the EPL games for free on our TV in the middle of the decade. Hard to believe I know, and that has long since changed, but that's where I got into this, and as a Beatles fan at the time, I couldn't help but become a Liverpool supporter. It was long after that I learnt that the Beatles were actually Everton fans, or at least there were some speculations hinting at that. But it was too late to reconsider as I was already a fan of Fowler, Kewell, Hyypia, Hamann, Berger, young Stevie G and the other guys. So it went from there, and the Istanbul Champions League final was surely a highlight of my football fan's life. I've never been to Anfield, though, nor even to Liverpool - the only time I was in UK it was just London and a few neighboring towns (such as Cambridge, Canterbury and Leicester). For myself, I never used to really care about Liverpool, and would even watch their games as a casual fan. My Australian friend who really got me into football followed Liverpool because of Harry Kewell, but not much more past that, so I'd take a passing interest.
I know zilch about American sports, so I have to ask - is it Red Sox specifically who have this horrible crowd or do you mean the very fact that they are owned by an American sports corporation? I'm undecided on John Henry thus far, but at least he's miles better than Liverpool's previous US owners who were a total disgrace! It also really doesn't help that they're owned by the Red Sox, so they now have a horrible contingent of glory hunting Americans from one of our worst sports fanbases running around here

Loosefish off of Live is pretty killer. I love how the band is so polished and Tim's voice ... isn't. It's a great contrast. I wonder how much this band rehearsed? They were always so tight live ...

We all learnt the parts and rehearsed A LOT! It helps that everyone was totally into it and that the whole experience was about as much fun as there is to have. Just wonderful, warm beautiful people. No bad vibes. All still extremely close to this day.
Kavus, how ironic for me to see your comment while I was listening to Knifeworld's excellent rendition of "Stench of Honey" for the first time! You guys really captured the 'spirit' while still putting your own stamp on it. Really, really fine work.

The C# major triad has never sounded as amazing as it does on the outro to "Dirty Boy". When that tune resolves to that chord for the first time, I cannot begin to express the feeling I get. Its beyond any words I can type. Pure genius.

I wonder if they will reissue the Manhoo cd single, considering Odd Even is available? There are two great non album tracks on there.
