I'm still wheezing a bit from Supersilent, Gavin Bryars and a GOOD GOD DAMN HELLS YES ACTUAL DEATHPROD SOLO SET, but there's lots to look forward to, for the adventurous listener.

Yeah...let's see how many people miss out on this thread because neither Yes nor ARW are part of the lineup ;-)

I wish it weren't so, but after attending several jazz festivals in NYC over the past few years and the last two Big Ears fests, it's clear to me that i just can't motivate myself to cram lots of music into a couple of days, even with copious breaks between sets.A couple of hours of live music over the course of a day is all i want nowadays.
I felt i was wasting my money by spending so much on airfare, tickets, hotel, meals etc when i didn't want to see alot of music. The point of going to these festivals(it seems to me) is to see as much music as you can, given that music starts at 10 or 11 am and lasts till midnight or later.(as at BigEars).
This clearly is the most power packed lineup at Big Ears, far more impressive than the two years i attended.I'm sorry i'll miss it.

^^^^^Thanks John.If you see Nief-Norf, apologize to them on my behalf for my walking out on their performance of Morton Feldman's Crippled Symmetry/Why Patterns at that church in Knoxville at last years Big Ears.I stayed longer than most, there were many early walkers-out, but after an hour and a half, i too had had* enough.
*is "had had" acceptable grammar?......shrug.

Carla Bley. I think I'm there.
Would be great to see you there, I've bought my ticket, now to start checking out the bands.

I went last year for the first time and it was amazing. I'm almost 60 years old, and I flew in from California for the week. It was worth every penny of my money and every minute of my time. They've extended the Festival this year from 3 days to 4 days to accommodate even more music. It's really really cool and you should consider going if you can. I heard so much music I had never heard before and it's very easy to leave and go to the next venue to hear something different if you're not enjoying what you're hearing.

Damn you all, Carla Bley trio + orchestra, Meredith Monk, and so so many others,

Got the tix and the reservations, now just the waiting.
I just hope Sunday will be lightly scheduled.
I can take only so much of a good time.

4 days does seem a bit long for me, I tend to suffer from overload/exhaustion by the end of a three day festival. Guess its better than last year where they added that event on the Sunday late and I already had flights booked. This way hopefully they'll put out a schedule early enough to make choices.

I've booked my room through Saturday night...once the lineup gets closer I might see about extending it by one day if there's something to see. Would probably mean taking Monday off regardless though (for those of us crazy enough to drive ).

I went the other way and booked the room from 22nd to leave on 27th. I'll cancel any days I don't need. 14 hour drive from Boston, I'll be flying in.

I will roll the dice on Sunday. Checking out Sunday morning.
Will stick around till the afternoon if there is anything interesting.
It's a long drive. Monday is a work day, unless something awesome happens Sunday late.

"My Brightest Diamond" should please everyone who is into Kate Bush informed stuff....
The only performer on the list I know (and have seen) is Michael Hurley. He's a hoot and one of the grand old folkies still around.

Looking forward to my day in court.
Overlooked but totally relevant to this forum:
I'm not familiar with My Brightest Diamond, but plan to remedy that at Big Ears if not sooner

Both are actually present in the lineup, albeit under their avant-core parallel merger installment moniker, The Snot Beavers. Howe is main vocalist and charismatic frontman here (wait 'til you see the hairdo and his intimate latex outfit, man!), with the others mainly on laptops and a few accordions.

Yes!
As for "My Brightest Diamond", I know the singer from her work on The Decemberists' "The Hazards of Love". Her performance on the song "The Wanting Comes in Waves" is SPECTACULAR! Seriously- check it out. I've been meaning to check out her band. On first listen I enjoyed the clip above.
