Halloween Theme #2: Songs of Folklore Monsters

Coming from NJ, there are a lot of songs to the Jersey Devil, the local cryptozoology legend. At one point, I was asked to do artwork for an album about the Jersey Devil, but it never panned out.

Weird NJ put out a cd, now out of print, about some of the subjects of its stories, including one called "The Jersey Devil" by a band called Primal Smell.

So, what are songs about creepy folklore beasts?
    "Alienated-so alien I go!"

    Reynardine - Fairport Convention (about a were-fox)
No Lullaby - Jethro Tull (dragons and beasties of all sorts)

And here's a wonderfully creepy song by The Decemberists (with Shara Worden as the evil Queen of the Forest):

"And your little sister's immaculate virginity wings away on the bony shoulders of a young horse named George who stole surreptitiously into her geography revision."

I thought of the The Decemberists too. Only this one is about real people who became folktale boogeymen in their lifetime.

Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world.

Fairport Convention - Tam Lin (the Fairy Queen is the bad vibe here.)

Phideaux - Chupacabras (possibly a real unknown wild dog/coyote like mammal, or just part of Puerto Rican folklore.)
Day dawns dark...it now numbers infinity.

Genesis - Squonk (and arguably A Trick of the Tail)
    Marillion - Grendel

Night of the Mexican Goat Sucker - Djam Karet
We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973

    Steppenwolf - Hawkwind (were-wolf)

If You Have Ghosts - Roky Erickson

Ghosts probably don't count as folklore monsters, but I like this song

There must be some good songs about vampires, but I'm not able to think of one right now.

    How about the two-headed dog?

Status Quo have an album called Dog of Two Head, but it contains no title song.

Stoner band Fu Manchu appear to be fans of 60's monster movies (they even covered BOC's "Godzilla) so they've had a few songs about mythical creatures/figures of their own design: "Steel Beast Defeated", "Webfoot Witch Hat", "Land of Giants", "Robotic Invasion", "Weird Beard"...

Sasquatch has the song "Yetti" from their debut album.

Wo Fat - "Night of the Chupacabra"

Metallica - Of Wolf And Man. Not to do so much with the classic werewolf story as much as it is about the belief held by some Native American tribes (you know, Indians) that one could get in touch with their animal spirit guide and shapeshift into the form of an animal and of course it was usually something cool like a predator mammal or raptor.
