I like it. Doubtful I'll ever do more than pull the vinyl from the sleeve and oogle the lovely color (which IS lots of fun, to be fair), but the CDs and DVD are terrific. The DVD is NTSC, not PAL, and looks excellent.

Not for everybody. But I'm glad to have it.
Is the DVD a substantial improvement over the boot?

I've never seen the boot, so I really can't say. For what it is, I think it looks great (i.e. we aren't talking hi-def perfection here, but it is still really great IMHO).
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

    Did anyone pick this up?

Has anyone bought any of the History of Solar Music Story CDs?

Recommendations? I need some more solar music-K!

I have the box and the history sets. I really like the box, but it IS pricey for what you get.

I have 2 of the history sets. The Rockpalast broadcast I only have on a DVD-R I burned myself.

I like the history sets, but they also kind of blur together for me in that I can't always remember which versions are on which set...none of them replaces the original as THE version of Solar Music.

I have the International Grobschnitt Story and it's rather good (especially SML, which is even better than the album itself, I find), even the 80's tracks presenting a better version than the studio albums.

I've got a Rockpalast boot and the SML studio... I think that's enough for me

That's the thing with me as well, that original version on Ballermann is THE BEST! but for instance, the HSM Vol 1 has a version 1974 in Dierks studio...

Interestingly enough, my next favorite version is actually the one from the Illegal Live 3CD set that was around a few years ago. It's sufficiently different and really well-performed. Great send-off for Mist, IMHO

I watched the concert yesterday for the first time on a broadcast DVD copy I had for years and was quiet surprised by the good overall sound , but half of the concert you can hear clearly a hum that is annoying in the quieter passages and that seems to come from Lupo's guitar. Has this been fixed on the new release?

So are the CDs/DVD totally unreleased? Or were they on a previously released album such as a box set, compilation? Being Solar Music, it seems there are several different versions/performances already.

To my knowledge the Dortmund December 1978 concert was officially unreleased (audio & video). This Solar Music version does not show up on any of the four History Of Solar Music CD sets. The complementary Berlin 1978 version of Solar Music included in the boxset was released on the International Grobschnitt story 2 CD Sampler.

I can't see buying the vinyl since "we had indeed the characteristic grooves omitted".
