Thread: The Damn I'm Old Thread - Putting Up With Being a Geezer

  1. #2576
My wife believes she is old. I agree, she's past her expiration date for still being good, but I'm stuck with her. Would consider trading for a dog if my daughter wasn't allergic. Me? I'm willing myself younger, growing out my hair bit and going back to an 80s and 90s state of mind. Plenty of time to be a geezer years from now.

I have a bit of a "Geezer" dilemma. An acquaintance of mine in Canada went in for open heart surgery last Wednesday. I texted him that morning wishing the best.....He replied..."Thanks, I'll talk to ya on the other side." It's now the following Tuesday and still no word...Texted him twice but no reply. I have a marginal friendship with his wife....Do you call a potential "widow" and ask about her husband? She is a bit over-dramatic so I am hesitant to set her off..... And I reiterate...he is an acquaintance.....not really a friend.....known him for 14 years but he is the worst example of a Bigot / White Supremacist I have ever encountered....so no, not really a friend but I am generally concerned for his health...

Which sucks, because newspapers now charge you to run an obit.

Not to mention box set unboxing night. That could get really romantic.

Working at home, online meetings are while I'm sitting in the same chair as when I'm working, so there's no running around to other floors or buildings, and I can grab coffee and/or drinks and be back in my chair in a minute rather than having to go to the middle of the office building, or up and down 4 flights of stairs like I'm used to.--so now my butt aches from sitting around so much. I bought a better chair, but it didn't help an awful lot, so I guess I have to look at setting a standing workstation, or something. I found that it felt better if I occasionally sat with my leg tucked under myself, but I guess I did that too much and now I have a sore ankle.

Dave, a friend who is a PT suggested these exercises to help with the sore butt/thighs problem.

    Thanks.

Between those exercises, this one, and this one, I should be seeing some improvement pretty soon.

Welcome to my world. I've worked from home for many years. Pre-Covid I traveled to my client's offices more-or-less every 2nd week, but was at home all other times. Now I'm WFH full time.

I have a decent chair, and a cheap but very effective back support thingie that I can slide up and down the backrest as needed.

For the past 7 weeks I've worked an average of 74 hours / week!

So my butt and back have worn this chair in pretty well.
    Regards,

    Duncan

Knee replacement #2 is in the books. Got released from the hospital yesterday afternoon. Now back to the grind of getting the knee back in shape. So far I seem to have a bit more flexibility than I had after the other knee at this point, but time will tell.

I still go to the office every day. This company is lucky to have me. I'm not tooting my horn... Truth. They need a guy like me. All the hardware problems come to me. Since we don't do house calls these lazy people have to bring their asses to the district office.

Here's something you don't necessarily have to be a Geezer to experience. My Neighbors (62yo) just lost their Dog last Sunday.....Layla was 17! Pretty good for a Ridgeback / Shepard mix. Kenny is a BIG strong dude but was reduced to tears telling the story.....She was a neat "watch" dog. When she barked Someone was IN our back yards (5 of us back up to a unfenced greenbelt.

A followup to my Canadian buddy whom I was wondering about having open heart surgery but was unable to connect replied to one of my texts this weekend....At least he survived the surgery....said he'll call soon to fill me in...

....just sitting here in Plague-times keeping track of peeps.........

It's better that they outlived an older dog.

WOW. I just spoke to this guy last night. Had the surgery on the 9th. Heart was in worse shape than originally thought. Instead of 2 holes in the lining of a chamber...there were 5....and the bad valve couldn't be repaired, so was replaced. But that wasn't the worst of it....He apparently had a psychotic reaction to the anesthesia and had to be put in a medical coma for 10 days! They were bringing him out slowly......he escaped the hospital. He does remember standing outside of the Emergency room buck naked with tubes hanging out with passers by staring at him.....back into the hospital and knocked out again....got home on the 24th. He is still a bit out of it....that whole thing of all the delusions feeling so real....He was a Medic in the army and then spent the next 40 years as a paramedic in Victoria BC....so he's seen psychotic episodes. He thanked me for not contacting his wife during all this as I guess it really freaked her out! (and she is still in treatment for Bladder Cancer) So....he is home now ....all the cracked ribs Really hurting....and he's getting some memories back but he is no where near 100% in the brain department!
