along with Zeppelin, DP was one of my favorite non-prog bands of the 70's. my favorite 'mach' was II. didn't care for the Coverdale/Hughes era (didn't like much at all on either Burn or Stormbringer though Taste was actually pretty decent). Gillan had one of the best voices in rock, Paice was one of the best drummers, i loved Lords keyboard touch in the music - made purple unique among hard rock bands - and their lyrics didn't seem dumbed down. too bad Blackmore was such a dick.
but now my question.. who wrote or co-wrote most of their material? i want to say Gillan/Glover but not sure. i've read from different sources that Gillan was a pretty intelligent guy and had a mastery of the English language so i wouldn't be surprised if he was the main lyricist (to me No One Came is brilliant in the way the story is told. not to mention it has a nice groove to it).
sorry but i no longer have the LP's and the CD's i have (the Complete Albums collection) don't list the credits underneath the song title.
going off course a little bit, i remember a thread a while back where it was debated whether or not Paice used a double bass drum for the intro to Fireball. here's a link i found that should answer that question..
