Thread: New Yang album on PledgeMusic (ex Shylock)

New Yang album on PledgeMusic (ex Shylock)

Hi kids! Been a few days since I had a new thread sink like a rock, so here we go!

Yang has a new CD up on PledgeMusic. Their first was a choice morsel of awesome on Cuneiform, and I suspect this one will be equally lovely.

(for those wondering "who? why?" then...Frédéric L'Épée of Yang is also Frédéric L'Épée of Philharmonie and Shylock. So...yeah, awesome.)

    The Blurb:

"The music market is changing. Fans are no more simple consumers but may take an active part in the professional life of an artist.

Our 1st album ‘A Complex Nature’ came out in 2004 on Cuneiform Records. We had some fantastic reviews for the record from all over the world and we started to play concerts in France and Europe.

We were at that time all living in Nice in the south of France, but Frédéric moved to Paris and it became more and more difficult to get together.

However, we released a 2nd album ‘Machines’, which we put out ourselves, and like most of self-productions has not been properly promoted.

Now is the time for our 3rd opus, ‘The Failure of Words’, and we are very proud of it.

And this time we have a team: Talented musicians and producers who are involved with us, and you, our audience, our fans or music lovers who wish to support us all along the process of recording, producing, manufacturing, and promoting the album. We would like to release ‘The Failure of Words’ before the end of 2016, hopefully in November or December at the latest.

So this is your chance to be part our future. There is some exclusive content for you, including a private video of us recording the album, a live video song recorded also in the studio and a lot of other treats.

In the Tao De Jing, YANG is the force of opening and statement to the world.

Thanks to you, let’s hope that 2017 will also see Yang performing throughout the world.
    "

Some spiffy goodies up there, including the CD of course but also a concert DVD and more.

    Happy Pledging!
    JB

(PS: apologies if this is a repeat thread...I didn't find anything on searching)

    You're welcome!

Mod types: I kind of suck with the thread title...if it isn't too much trouble could you add (Ex-Shylock) or something alongside Yang? Might get a few extra readers/pledgers in the door, so to speak...

    I think it's really good.

Not sure I could say that it is very different from A Complex Nature, but it's really good.

    Thanks Steve!!

I found this review from Ron aka prognaut:

"After almost several years of silence, the band reemerged (with this line-up) and released “Machines“ in 2009. My first impression was that it was heavier than the debut but unmistakingly, Yang. Continuing their own brand of instrumental progressive rock and fusion with songs staying around the 5 minute mark. The music has been compared to various eras of King Crimson but less the improvisation characteristics."

    Heavier?
    I'm in!!

Ps.: I had the opportunity of shared / spoke some words with Ron back in Baja Prog some moons ago!!...great guy!!

First album was damn good. I prefer it to both the Shylock albums and Philharmonie, both of whom I really like.

Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Thanks for the heads up John. I love Shylock and the first Yang was really good. I'll bookmark it and probably back it when I get paid!

    Sweet, thanks!

I also went ahead and ordered their 2nd, which had totally slipped past me until this PledgeMusic campaign surfaced.

Pleased too...although a little bemused. I supported the campaign but have yet to see any of my physical rewards (CD, etc.), while I do see it listed for sale already on other sites.

Not losing sleep, it's one of the risks to supporting these sorts of campaigns.

Yeah, I just got this from Wayside, I'm surprised supporters haven't gotten it yet Hopefully it's in the works.

I've only given the album one spin so far, but was totally satisfied. Seems to be a bit of keyboard work on there, which is unusual for a Yang album, but it works well. These guys have quietly become one of my favorite contemporary Prog bands and I'm really looking forward to exploring the new album. Hope this isn't the last we hear from them.

In their defense...one of the pledges (the one I got) also included a DVD of a performance, and THAT was supposedly delayed. I guess they decided to hold on shipping anything until all the rewards were ready to go. I personally would've gone a different route but it isn't THAT absurd a notion (if they were already tight on budget, the added cost of shipping separate rewards could be difficult).

It IS a good album, isn't it?

That makes sense if part of the project got delayed. I'm sure the band will make good to those who supported their campaign.

As I say, I'm really looking forward to digging in to this one more. Usually if I like something on first listen, the prognosis is very good, so I'm encouraged.
