    Indeed, and the two Lasting Weep (Maneige's previous incarnation) are well worthy a glance as well, afterwards)

    The Felíu y Joan Albert really isn't all that obscure anymore, thankfully. Partly due to the CD reissue from a decade back, but also because Joan Albert Amargos' own band of the day, Musica Urbana, had their near-mythical debut album reissued as well. Felíu Gasul is fairly well known in certain listening quarters, but mostly in his native country and not particularly with a rock or even "prog" audience. He has done music for the stage (i.e. theatre), for radio, jingles etc. but not much I would describe as even remotely "rock-related" since his '77 duo album with Amargos, at least not that I've heard. He created an ever so discreet buzz sometime before the album from having presented Andrés Segovia with the charts to a concerto whcih the latter apparently deemed "unfeasable" to realise in terms of time and money needed - so Gasúl went ahead and somehow managed to produce his own performances of the work.

    Another extremely original practitioner of contemporary avant-garde guitarism that I'd recommend is Paolo Angeli from Italy, who has worked in the more distant fields of (progressive) rock, with ensembles small and large, with through-composed programmes, improvisation etc. He mostly plays the grand Sardinian guitar (handpicking, manipulating or with a bow), adjusted to specific functions of timbre and tone by way of physical enhancements and gadgets he engineered himself. Some of his stuff is downright amazing;

    "Improvisation is not an excuse for musical laziness" - Fred Frith
    "[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM

    Feliu Gasul & Joan Albert Amargos were allready active musicians in other famous prog bands in Spain.
    Feliu Gasul have since then made som pretty spectacular solo guitar records if you are into modern acoustic equilibrism.

    That might be the cleanest sounding work I've ever heard below the 12th fret! I had to buy a cut-away classical to be able to play tunes that go there.
