I had thought Queen might be a good one. I don't think it gets you much RE side projects, but for a band you're going to listen to every day, a good choice.

Same could be said for Rush.

Oh, did I tell you I consider Live Aid to be a band?
In that case I would go for Band für Afrika (The German version), giving me a whole lot of German artists and if everything, everyone who was involved in, would count, I'm nicely covered.

If it can be a composer I'd pick Beethoven. Not sure what rock artist I would pick

Did Beethoven have a lot of side projects?

The Yardbirds... then it would include Clapton's, Page and Beck's careers, as well as Rennaisance.

I assume you're wondering whether there's something with some resemblance in Classical Music. I tell you not at all, just the 'Variation' can have sort of a resemblance. The broader way for this thread's matter is choosing a Conductor among your faves.

"Beethoven can write music, thank God, but he can do nothing else on earth. ". Ludwig van Beethoven

I was thinking Leonard Bernstein might be good.

Without hesitation, The Beatles. It helps that I have about 75 LPs and a couple hundred CDs.
