    Tower of Power

These guys are still a tight and fantastic rock/funk/soul band after 48 years. If you dig their music, see them if you can.

They were great at an outdoor venue with excellent sound. Some of the tunes they played last night were Soul Vaccination, You Got To Funkifize, Diggin' On James Brown, So Very Hard To Go, What Is Hip, and You're Still A Young Man.

I'm sorry but I can't take the words "Tower of Power" seriously or even think of them without conjuring up images of a brutal sex machine all due to Zappa's Bobby Brown song.

TMI, man. I've also seen Frank Zappa in concert, but it didn't break my mind.

Good to see that the incomparable David Garibaldi is still in the engine room.

Great band. My favorite R&B/Soul/Funk/Whatever band. I've seen them live a few times. Last time I saw them was in 2003. The core horn section was original guys (at least 3-4 were originals), and the rhythm section was original, founding members as well (Frank Prestia, Dave Garibaldi). There are some gaps in my TOP collection. My favorite album of their's is the first one. It's greasy and sweaty. Oakland's own. Love this band.

I always thought that this was mainly a brass section (ala Muscle Shoals), but also doing a few albums...

I looked them up on RYM

What would be the best album to start with? I'd tend to say the debut, but not sure...
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

Francis Rocco Prestia is a finger-funk bass master.......first guy I heard where a reverse-P pickup mounting on a P-Bass really makes a difference in articulation, too
