Great heavy covers of 80s synth tracks.

We all know there are some awful heavy covers of pop tunes out there. But there are some very good heavy covers of some 80s synth tracks. I think the ones that succeed best are those that just add heavy music to the lyrics and the existing style of vocal delivery. The heavy covers I don't like are the ones that render the original song unrecognizable.

    Here are my top three:

NB: The DM single came out in late 89.

Yea, I prefer to the original too.

Rocket Scientists cover of the theme to Gerry Anderson's Space 1999.

Though the original is not exactly a synth-based track (mixes between guitar, synth and orchestra), Norlander's version emphasises the synth lead and rocks it up.

    I kinda like it.
I only clicked on it because I thought it was going to be something more interesting...

Sorry, but I was never a New Order fan.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with the concept of the thread.

Although not faves by any stretch of the imagination, I did like both Joy Division and New Order and I remember very well when Blue Monday was a giant club hit in the 80s (along with "American-Soviets" by C.C.C.P.)........I still like it, but I said I "sometimes" opt for Orgy's version: Depends on my mood.....

Slightly of Topic cause covers of a late 70s and an early 90s song, but the funniest German band ever!

These are two that I always quite enjoyed (The Cure probably doesn't qualify as a synth band, but worth including here nonetheless):

I guess if we include The Cure, Ill throw in this ELO cover by Pain (it was a very synthy ELO song from the 1981 Time album to begin with)

^^^Are you sure that's a cover? It sounds just like the original ... especially the vocals ...
Cobra handling and cocaine use are a bad mix.
