The vinyl and "collectable" baubles are certainly something I could live without.

Going through the tracklisting, why is Obscured by Clouds included in this? It's the only studio album included and remixed for this set.

Nice to have the full list of contents, although discs 6 and 7 have the same stuff, so this is evidently a cut-and-paste error.
Most serious collectors have a lot of this stuff already, so the big question is whether the audio or video quality is significantly improved.
There are, of course, some rather mouth-watering previously unheard or unseen things, including the Zappa jam at Amougies, which I don't think was even in the film (which, ironically, got pulled at the request of the Floyd in 1970 !).

I hope details soon emerge of what the sources are for the material... I fear a lot of this may be glossily packaged bootleg with no significant improvements - more like the Genesis footage in the 2008 boxes rather than something like The Who's "Kids Are Alright" restoration...

That is very interesting, but crazy expensive. I have no use for vinyl, so hopefully the future package releases will not include that and be considerably cheaper. Some of that really interests me.

When I saw the 2-cd distillation didn't include 'Vegetable Man', I was raging! I was therefore very pleased to know that they are indeed putting the lion's share out separately over the next year. The biggest miss would be the Syd Barrett BBC sessions (only in the big box, I gather) but to have the unreleased studio tracks is enough for me, really. And finally a proper representation of the post-Syd/pre-DSOTM era in concert.

The 2-cd set, though, is very poor IMHO. Hardly worth releasing.

I dont see some of the promised material - 2 quad mixes promised, but instead only AHM and half of meddle? (Echoes)
Also where are the 5.1 promised? dont see Meddle and OBC? just a stereo remix of OBC? strange...
Pompeii 5.1 on the other hand is a nice bonus...

I took an extra dose of Fukitall and bought the set via Burning Shed. Including shipping to the US the total was around $475. I think it might've been slightly cheaper via Amazon.co.uk but I know & trust Burning Shed. And it's still over $200 cheaper than the current price on Amazon US.

Yes, yes, and GOD YES

The 2CD set has some cool stuff, but it doesn't have some of the (IMHO) key rarities like Scream and Vegetable Man from the Barrett era. I would imagine that anyone who is super interested in that era is going to wait for the individual "book" sets or spring for the big beastie.

Pink Floyd have announced The Early Years – 1965-1972, a 27-disc boxed set that includes unreleased demos, TV appearances, and live footage from the classic rock band’s formative years. Set for a November 11 release, the collection consists of seven “individual book-style packages” containing a total of 12 hours of audio and 15 hours of video.

Though Pink Floyd achieved global fame with 1973’s The Dark Side of the Moon, 1975’s Wish You Were Here, and 1979’s The Wall, the period that precedes it — documented in The Early Years — is perhaps as important. This collection captures the band’s origins as pioneers of blues-infused psychedelic rock, as well as the brief but influential tenure of troubled frontman Syd Barrett.

The first of the set’s seven parts is Cambridge St/ation, spanning material from 1965 to 1967 — including previously unreleased tracks such as “Vegetable Man” and “In the Beechwoods” along with a 1967 Stockholm concert — and Barrett’s period with the band. Germin/ation covers 1968 and the singles that immediately followed Barrett’s departure from Pink Floyd, while Dramatis/ation tackles 1969 and the conceptual live production the band devised before releasing their studio album Ummagumma.

Devi/ation takes material from 1970 like the band’s contributions to Michelangelo Antonioni’s Zabriskie Point and their first BBC performance. The demos for 1971’s Meddle, and its seminal 20-minute track “Echoes” — considered a valuable precursor to Dark Side by many — are contained on Reverber/ation. And the 1972 portion of the set, Obfusc/ation, contains video performances from the group’s spooky, essential concert captured on Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii.

Select highlights from the boxed set will be collected on the two-disc compilation Cre/ation, which will also be available digitally. The Early Years – 1965-1972 is currently available for pre-order for just shy of $500.

Have they not found space for those two wonderful Paris Theatre BBC shows? I know they are widely bootlegged but do think they deserve a release of their own.
