Possible Pink Floyd 'early years' set

Details are a little vague at present, but I found this on the ever-useful Imwan site:

    http://www.imwan.com/phpBB3/viewtopi...bfe5dc1fd70b02

Hopefully the rarities (maybe 'Scream Thy Last Scream' and 'Vegetable Man' at last?) will be in an affordable release, rather than just some huge mega-set or limited release. And it would also be neat for the mono mix of Saucerful to get a release...that hasn't been used since its original release, and maybe didn't get heard much even then as it's a late mono mix.

Well, I already have that deluxe edition of Piper they released a few years back, so I'm not excited about that part of the reissue. However, a proper archival set from the Piper/Saucer years would still be welcome.

Maybe we'll finally get a single decently priced package that has all the singles on it.

    It would be so nice.

    Yes it would.
But this is an old story. I remember reading this Nick Mason interview last year. There was a sense of urgency about getting it out to avoid the profitless "public domain" issue. Not sure what happened.

That's presumably why they released--if you can call it that--that unpublicized vinyl edition of the 1965 recordings last year.

That is out of print. It is excellent...that was the first one where I 'got' the mono hype. I hardly ever play the stereo one now. That mono mix sounds much more complete and rounded, with various oddities that never made it to the stereo.

^ I agree. I, too, have that deluxe edition. I never understood the mono craze until I heard that release. In a word: WOW!

Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Nothing official yet but it does appear something's happening. I really hope that the one disc version has the really important stuff (basically, the two infamous Syd Barrett tracks...anything else is a bonus).

Yikes! Sixteen discs? That plus the packaging that will doubtless surround it means a lot of money.

Amazon just updated with extensive details into the set and contents. Also got an email from PF about it.

Of particular note for those who see this set as batshiat-crazy expensive:

"Each individual book-style package will be released separately early in 2017, except ‘BONUS CONTINU/ATION’ which is exclusive to this box set."
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Also, Ephemeral Sun: it's a thing and we like making things that might be your thing: https://ephemeralsun.bandcamp.com

So, what will the cheapskates be missing exactly?

By the way, thanks for sharing the good news.

I wonder if "released separately" includes a physical release. It wouldn't surprise me if the separate releases were just downloads.

I can't justify the price of the box, but I wouldn't dismiss it so easily out of hand if it didn't include the vinyl (which I guess that would also lower the price).

You know, it's hard to tell from Amazon's listing...I would *guess* that the so-called "BONUS CONTINU/ATION" will probably include at least a few of the goodies that we hardcore peeps would want.

Still...if I'm reading that right, there's Atom Heart Mother live, surround mixes of Meddle, plus the various Barrett-era rarities that never got an official release.

It's crazy expensive, but in truth I am tempted. Maybe as a Christmas present to myself. Maybe.
