We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973

Hell, they ain't even old-timey ! - Homer Stokes
Damn! He was the whole reason to listen to those early Elvis records.
A GREAT hillbilly-to-rock picker! SO influential on rock music.

“Remember, if it doesn't say "Cuneiform," it's not prog!” - THE Jed Levin
Any time any one speaks to me about any musical project, the one absolute given is "it will not make big money". [tip of the hat to HK]
"Death to false 'support the scene' prog!"

An underrated talent. R.I.P.
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally
There's a bit in Steve Howe's guitar collection book, where he's talking about the Gibson Super 400, which was Scotty's main guitar. In the comeback special, I guess at the start of the "in the round" bit, Scotty's playing his Super 400, then at some point, Elvis says, "Gimme your guitar, Scotty", and Elvis proceeds to play rhythm guitar on it for the rest of the performance, while Scotty plays acoustic. He was a major part of the landmark 1968 Elvis TV special (the 'comeback special'),
.the in-the-round section where Elvis returned to his roots in spectacular fashion. Unfortunately they never worked together again after that- a great shame
I read an interview in Guitar Player with Scotty where he said that when Elvis got ready to go on the road again, in 69 or 70, or whatever, there was some talk of Scotty playing in the band, I guess what became the TCB Band. But of course, Corporal Parker didn't want to pay him a decent wage. So Scotty more or less refused (I think he said he actually made a counter offer, but Parker refused that), and so they got James Burton to play in the new band.
Oh boy....another great legend gone.
RIP Scotty.
