Found something about this online - saying he had some ribs removed so he could do it. Now THAT sounds like an Alice Cooper type rumor! I couldn't tell if it was at all for real, or some kind of fan fiction.

Most of his biggest hits were covers. He borrowed heavily from Alice Cooper's sound and stage show and David Bowie, right down to the alien falls to earth, fronts a band thing from Ziggy Stardust.

Alice Cooper said in an interview, when asked what he thought of Marilyn Manson,
"A woman's name for a band name, freakish make-up, theatrical stage show... wished I had thought of that"

But yeah, seemed like a decent guy. I don't hate his music, but don't find it essential either. I liked him better in Wonder Years. Lady Gaga pretty much followed his blue print for success, cherry picking and amalgamating long established acts and with a slight twist

Pretty much exactly how I feel about him. Cooper and Bowie did it first and better for the most part. I don't hate Manson, but have never been tempted to buy an album.

Took my oldest daughter to see MM with Slayer opening several years back. Highly entertaining - with "Heart Shaped Glasses" on whatever release that tour was supporting. Have most of his CDs. Also read his autobiography - interesting read, you can understand from his upbringing why Brian became MM. His interview on Harold Rollins' show was particularly good. IIRC he was also one of the dinner guests one time on Jon Favreau's "Dinner for Five" show. So there's appreciation enough right there.

basically, his stage show is like a train wreck. grotesque but you have to watch. or it used to be.
