    RIP, Gordie Howe...

Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe, legendary Detroit Red Wing, passed away at age 88.

I worshiped Gordie as a youth (saw him play at the big old barn called the "Olympia"). My dad told me stories about NY Ranger enforcer Lou Fontinato making the mistake of picking a fight with Gordie. Howe broke his nose and busted his jaw!

Ali, Howe and a host of great musicians. Geeze, 2016 really sucks.

They don't make them like him anymore. A class act through and through.

Yeah, but I guess hockey is more regional. Still, Howe was far more important to me than Ali growing up. But I find boxing rather boring. I don't think I've actually sat and watched a match since Hagler-Hearns or Hagler-Leonard.

Unfathomable that a guy could play to age 51 along with his two sons on the team. Reading the book "The Rebel League" about the World Hockey Association, you see that he was just as feared at an advanced age as he was in his prime. No one wanted to be sliced to ribbons by those elbows!
