Comet TV is showing a bunch of B horror movies today. I watched parts of "House on Haunted Hill" this morning. I couldn't resist.

Nothing's popping to mind. But my fave genre of B-movies is film noir. IMO, it's the only genre where the B-movies are usually good. As a kid, I loved the sci-fi B-movies but I don't think they've held up well.

Got it and sometimes they do run something good by accident but mostly, meh. For me it was, as a kid, cowboys and Indians but always sci-fi. You can laugh at it now as an adult when you see it but then, it was great. I think it's more about the memories. We would watch this stuff on weekends but on Monday it was all we could talk about in school. I like the Apartment but I like The Out Of Towners even more. I remember seeing them back to back once so I can't think of one without the other.

I thought this film was wild. The monster in the closet, the makeup job, was excellent. Thought I'd die when he bit the assistant. The original, Not Of This Earth is still one of my favorites. I seem to have a lot of this stuff.

Oh, sure. The nostalgic factor can make some movies still good. Generally, that has not been the case for me, tho.
Cool Hand Luke and Papillon are on tonight starting at 3am.
Ice Station Zebra is on Saturday night at 2am! I have been wanting to see this movie for ages. I'll have to record it.
Bad Day at Black Rock follows at 4:45am. Am not a fan of this movie.
The Philadelphia Story is on Sun at 6pm. It's been a while since I've seen it so I may have to tune in.

The Third Man is on right before Casablanca tomorrow. I might have to watch Key Largo again. I just saw it not too long ago, but I never tire of it. It has such great atmosphere and a killer cast. Really, can a cast get any better?
As much as I enjoy Casablanca and watching Ingrid Bergman in anything (especially "Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde"), I just saw that a few weeks ago. I'll certainly enjoy Lauren Bacall, though.

When asked for my top 10 movies , from boredom or politeness of my fellows, my list will vary depending on current mood. But Key Largo is a constant inclusion. It really is That good.

I was a big Alistair MacLean fan and read all his books. Most of the films made from his novels are very good, including this one, "Where Eagles Dare", "Breakheart Pass" and, of course, "The Guns of Navarone". Thx for the heads up, I will be recording.

Yeah, there's been quite a few wins - or losses, as the case may be - that's left me scratching my head. These are the ones that usually pop to mind the most:
Henry Fond never having won before On Golden Pond, albeit a deserved win... which was practically posthumous.
Paul Newman never having won before the Color of Money.
Mary Tyler Moore not winning for Ordinary People.
Glenn Close not winning two years in a row for Fatal Attraction and Dangerous Liaisons.
Of course, many times who should win is clear. Other times, well, look at this. Who do you pick?

Out of those 5 I only saw Casino and Leaving Las Vegas. Skipped DMW basically from extreme dislike of Sarandon. SandS was a Victorian costume drama? If so , that would be why I skipped it. Bridges , I just missed. I might pick it up from the library , I would probably enjoy it. So my totally uninformed pick would be Stone for Casino. Did she win?
No. Susan Sarandon did.
I don't think Streep deserved the nod. But everyone else did. My point was, who to give it to? That was a tough year to pick just one.

Just finished up a Sunday double feature: Papillon and Ice Station Zebra.
I hadn't seen Papillon in ages. It's as good as I remembered.
As for ISZ, I had never seen it. Maltin gives it 2½ stars and at first I didn't understand why. But I see, now: the third act wasn't as strong as it could have been.
Next up is another movie I've been wanting to see since I was a kid after my mother raved about it: The Picture of Dorian Gray.
