Eric Burdon & The Animals/Edgar Winter Tour 2016

Wow, didn't know about this, but just bought tix to see Eric Burdon & The Animals and Edgar Winter, doing a show at Tarrytown Music Hall.

No idea who's in The Animals with Burdon, but I don't know who was EVER in the band with him. Can't miss this, seeing as it's so close. Saw Edgar Winter a couple of years ago with Johnny, and he was great!

Some of those later '60s albums that were billed to Eric Burdon & the Animals (as opposed to just "The Animals") really were on the cusp between psychedelia and proto-prog. Love Is, in particular, gets pretty experimental even though it consists almost entirely of psychedelicized pop covers. (And it even has Robert Wyatt on it!) Alas, I suspect that whatever version of EB&tA ol' Eric is taking out on the road nowadays will be more about the old hits and blues covers. Still gotta be worth seeing.

Didn't the Spock's Beard bass player play in a version of Eric Burdon and the New Animals or something like that? If so then close enough.

This version of Burdon's band had *both* Neal Morse and Dave Meros from Spock's :

True. Winds of Change, The Twain Shall Meet and Love Is are at times very underrated, daring 'art-rock' efforts with some quite advanced approaches at play. Twain in particular, is one of the artsiest psych-rock albums I've heard, often bordering on chamber-pop.

Seen Edgar and Johnny (RIP) together a few times back in the day. Never seen Burdon, and Tarrytown is close so I may put this on the "may go" list.

They're probably playing other venues, I just know about the Tarrytown show because it's my favorite venue and I'm on their email list.

Isn't Burdon himself nearly 80 now? He played at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival here in Norway (I had a commuter job there that summer, so I remember pretty well how some locals were actually bragging about Burdon coming - who would've known?!), and there was a lot of talk about how friggin' old the man is.

Eh. I won't be going the night Burdon comes to my corner of the world. I'll be seeing someone older than him that night: McCoy Tyner.

Burdon is 75 according to Wikipedia. If his voice is still strong, I'll be impressed!

I`ll be in NY when they play, but going to see Sigur Ros on the same night, will I be missing something?

Yikes....just watched a few recent clips on YT...pretty lame is putting it kindly.

Don't get me wrong. I was a big Animals fan in the late '60's (I was 10-11 in 68-69) but this was not too good.

Hmm... Well, to be honest I MAINLY wanted to see Edgar again - man, was his show fun! Also my son is really into a couple of Animals songs so I thought it would be fun for him.
And there's a really good Chinese restaurant and a craft beer bar right next to the venue!

I've seen Sigur Ros twice, first time in a big night club was fantastic, the second time in a theater was absolutely mind blowing. That would be a tough one to miss.

I saw Edgar Winter a few years ago. That was one of the most fun of all of 80 or so concerts I have ever seen. His band was killer. Peace and goodwill.

I saw EB &A in April 2015 and I thought they were great. Eric was in strong voice all night. We Gotta Get Out Of This Place was my fave live song of 2015. He had a different (more mature) band than the one referenced in post #10. I'd go again if he were nearby.
    I remember tomorrow

I think Neal Morse was in that band too.

Winds Of Changes, The Twain Shall Meet and Love Is are proggy as well

More like heavy psych, but cool albums.

Twain is definitely the crowning achievement of the New Animals...

I was kind of disappointed of not hearing more of Andy Summers (don't have any major impressions, anyway) in Love Is

Everyone Of Us was a real disappointment for me.

Agreed. I saw him last year, and it was a great show.

Although, Eric didn't take too kindly to the older, overweight lady with an armful of albums that tried to climb on the stage. She was having a difficult time getting her leg up high enough to reach the stage, so she set her albums down on the stage to give it another attempt. Eric came over, picked up the albums and tossed them into the crowd and then yelled "Do I come to your place of work and fucking interrupt you?!" She was then was then escorted back to her seat by security, with gathered albums in tow.
