I am fascinated and I am horrified

I don't even know how I feel after reading this. Not much surprises me anymore and as referenced in the article, we did have the Chipmunks and the Archies in earlier times, but still ...
Think of a book as a vase, and a movie as the stained-glass window that the filmmaker has made out of the pieces after he’s smashed it with a hammer.

Yeah, but can it throw a television set out of a 10th floor hotel window?

I, for one, welcome our holographic vocaloid overlords!

I like the way they programmed its dance moves -- looks just like one of the pop princesses.

    Sure, why the hell not?

Amazed they actually had REAL musicians playing in the background. They will have to rectify that in future performances. Maybe they can use kids playing air guitars and air drums - or better yet, on Guitar Hero.

By the way, We've had Alvin and the chipmunks for decades, why is this things voice any different?

Next we'll have some band come along with facial masks and costumes and podium setups to mimic those exact designs of Genesis'n'shit, impeccably performing their songs. Yeah, right - will we ever.

I don't know whether I want to destroy it, or start trying to madly hump it.*

*I know it's only 16, but since it's just a computer program, who cares?

I dunno - I find the enthusiastic crowd pouring their energy into a hologram rather than a human being a bit disconcerting and even creepy. Count me the F out!

Could not agree more. I'm sure that hologram was really "feeling the love" from that audience and gave the best performance if her (its?) life (sim life?). Creepy and disconcerting are the tip of the iceberg with this.

Well, it was all really just smoke and mirrors anyway.

I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

Well maybe they will program them so won't be as batshit crazy as the Kanye Wests of the real world!

For good or ill, I think we might get to a point where all audio and video is loaded into a computer and 'new' art comes out and could be played live via hologram. Or, taking old videos of the band and showing them via hologram. I can see this happening with the grateful dead. Mixing songs from different shows to create new versions. Integrating images that move with the new music. Hell, 'they' could create some algorithm with all of Yes music and the computer could compose 'new' Yes music.

The voice gets annoying pretty fast. How about a prog-group with a vocalist created with a simular technique?

They didn't use a hologram for vocals, did they? I thought it was a giant stuffed rabbit?

B-but... Now we can have a younger Jon come on with a hologram to relive the days of 1977 or 1973! Can't you just hear those masses yell out for Younger Jon! Younger Jon! Who then answers "Cha-ch'ch-cha-cha'h!"?

Whatevers. The so-called real performers' performances are rarely real. Their voices are fake, the wooden dance routines are professionally choreographed by unseen, uncredited persons. May as well be animatronic dummies on stage anyway. Fewer people to split the pie.

And I'm ok with people that will pay money to see a hologram, doing so. I like knowing where those guys are at any given moment. I'd never do it but then again, I'd never drink cleaning solvents or eat lead paint. What did we expect when we implemented child safety caps and Mr. Yuck stickers.

Oh Darwin, why hast thou forsaken us!
