Which albums would make your Rush 3 album tour?

So Rush may have done touring but we can still fantasise can't we?

If Rush were to do a 3 Album Tour, which ones would you pick?

I'd go for: A Farewell To Kings, Hemispheres & Permanent Waves.

    Hemispheres
    Permanent Waves
    Moving Pictures
with Subdivisions and Xanadu as an encore

No lame sound effects or clowning around, just the music, played as close as possible to the way they are on the records (well, within reason, I would mind the kind of variations Geddy did on Exit...Stage Left). And I'd make Geddy play a real Minimoog Model D, Oberheim 8-Voice and OB-X too. Or at the very least he'd have him playing synths that do a better job at emulating the old ones, none of this virtual business.

And Neil would have to go back to an all acoustic drums/percussion rig. No samples.

I would probably pick these as well although I might be tempted to substitute AFTK with Moving Pictures.

    2112, AFTL and Hemispheres...

Though I doubt Geddy's voice could take it.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

Yeah, that's the thing. I remember back in the 80's, when Geddy was on the cover of Keyboard magazine (I think that was the October 84 issue, around the time he really started going gung ho with the synths), he mentioned about having to be careful about what keys the songs were in because he sometimes "got himself in trouble" with stuff being in keys that were uncomfortable for him to sing in. He cited Hemispheres as an album were most of the songs were difficult for him to sing night after night.

So if he had a problem with that material back then, it's probably even worse now.

And if we're gonna talk reality, there's the fact that Neil still has his arthritis problem.

Bingo. They can take the songs down a full step to accommodate the vocals for all I care, this is the material I'd want to hear.

Hold Your Fire-Counterparts-Test For Echo---Selections from Roll The Bones for encore.

That actually might be fun. They'd have to play a bunch of stuff never played which would make it really interesting for a Rush fan.

    Now THERE'S an interesting grouping....

Hold Your Fire is my favorite Rush album, so I'm glad to see it mentioned. And Test For Echo - well I've never met anyone besides me that really likes that one.

As much as I love Rush, if Rush did a 3 album tour I probably wouldn't even go because I think those kinds of tours are weak nostalgia trips and bands who are in it for that should sell their gear and retire already. Rush went out the right way, touring behind a new album that most fans liked.

I just played the 1980 St Louis show this afternoon. Man, what a powerhouse they were back then. I wish they'd go back and issue some more live stuff from back in the day.

Provided that there's some sort of time travel or just a rejuvenation device that would allow them to play these songs at the original tempos and in the correct keys:

    Permanent Waves
    Grace Under Pressure
    A Farewell to Kings

    Encore:
    2112
    Working Man

I'd love to hear them do a concert consisting of

    Tommy
    Are You Experienced?
    Disraeli Gears

(hey, the OP didn't say they had to be Rush albums...)

Hell, they'd probably love to do a set like that.

Until Clockwork Angels came along, Test for Echo was the only post-Power Windows album I would listen to (I also now like the remixed Vapor Trails). The album is despised on Rush forums but I like most of it; I get sort of an early Rush vibe from it and the things about late-era Rush that annoy me so (flamenco bass, Geddy choirs, instrumental clutter) don't seem as grievous on this album. Alex even said in a guitar magazine interview that they missed the mark with Counterparts but got it right with T4E, so it disappoints me that the album was overlooked on R40 and other recent tours, and if I recall wasn't mentioned in the documentary other than to tie it to the tragic deaths in Neil's life shortly after.
