I originally got into Mammal Hands, & their first lp, Animalia, around the same time as I was discovering GoGo Penguin. Then, by chance, I caught them playing live in a double bill, a year ago or so. I was primarily looking forward to GoGo Penguin, but, on the night, Mammal Hands were by far the more impressive, whilst GoGo Penguin revealed the limits of their approach in a live setting.

Now, I'm listening to Floa, the follow-up to Animalia - first impressions are that this could be a killer - it lacks some of the rawness & visceral energy of their live playing, & of Animalia...the vibe is closer to Portico Quartet, if anything - but with that comes some achingly beautiful tunes, & a more complex, deeper, record.
