I wonder if there will be any new video footage from that era. Hope so. LOVE the Neal and Jack and Me DVD.

Not yet. We'll find out soon enough when DGM fills in the details about this new set (titled "On And Off The Road 1981-1984" in the latest news from DGM).

Three of a Perfect Pair was my introduction to the band. "Sleepless" actually garnered some radio play in my area, turning me into a KC follower. I titled my first screenplay in film school "Moonlit and Bible Black" in homage to the group

What's "MTV 1984"? I remember them showing a highly edited version of the Live In Japan deal, but did they do something else? I actually still have a cassette tape that I dubbed off the FM simulcast thingy that they did for cable TV at the time (for those who don't remember: you paid a premium to the cable company for them to hook up the TV to your FM receiver so you could get MTV, HBO, Showtime and I think a few other channels over the stereo).

They also appeared on a show, I think, called Showtime At The Palace, where they played both Sleepless and Man With An Open Heart. I remember that actually being broadcast sometime before MTV showed the Live In Japan thing, because I remember it being the first time I saw Bruford's vertically mounted Simmons drum rack, which he used starting on that tour. You can find both songs on Youtube, with people commenting all the girls "dancing" to Sleepless (actually, I'm inclined to believe that was just stock footage the producers cut into the performance footage to make them look "sexy" or more exciting or something).

That's probably the same (if you have the links, please share them).

Yeah, and Fripp even smiled! Best 80s Crim footage ever. So spirited. It was like they stopped having fun by the next tour or something....

Adrian never stopped having fun LIVE with Crimson in the early-80s, Thank god (something they are severely lacking since his departure, imo); in the studio post-Beat was another story.

You've seen his "Larks' III" solo on the Japan video, right? If he's not having fun--even if it's conscientiously self-referential and deprecating--then I don't no fun.

Note: I may not know fun.

    $120.10 from Burning Shed
$135 from Inner Knot (but Frequent Flyers get a discount, usually $25 off, but it still usually comes to less from Burning Shed, and Burning Shed orders usually arrive to the US first.
But the lady at Inner Knot has been so nice to me in the past - sent me free t-shirts to wear on CTTE! What to do...

Anywho, so if you can use the Blu-Ray disks, the DVD-a disks are basically useless? Damn them for forcing them on us! But what the hell, I know I'm going to buy this so no point in complaining beyond this...

    Nifty.

FYI - final price from Burning Shed is just above $140, with shipping. Still my preferred venue, given their outstanding track record.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

I figure Germany '82 is KCCC#32 (Munich), but that's only one disc. This "new mix" must be two to get up to the "9cds" included in the box.

Has Japan '81 been released as a download? Anyone know about the sound quality?

    * 2cds of additional studio recordings including 1 cd containing edited and expanded of sessions for the abandoned third album and a 'making of...' CD featuring studio snippets and outtakes from across the studio recordings (providing a fascinating audio insight into the 'Crimson process')
Hopefully some of that "additional studio recordings" is from Discipline.

    * Alabama-Halle (Beat) (footage unseen since original 1982 broadcast)
    Very cool!

Not sure what this "unseen footage" is? Tour videos? The '84 shows were pretty much the same night after night, so there's not a whole lot there to get excited about.

I'm still in for this, but it's a little less exciting than the previous boxes--though that's what I initially thought about the Thrak box, too.

pretty exciting! only reservation is potentially two mixes of the same show for the last beat concert. would have been better imho to have the debut moles show so you could have the beginning and end. or a different beat show that showcased more beat songs live in the current setup a number of live beat songs are unrepresented.

I have the japan download bundle and can't speak for that show specifically but as a whole I was pleased with them.

yes, def surprised and disappointed that there aren't more live representations. the historical bookend idea you offer would have been, if not enough, more than this.

    still will buy tho

a bit more info from DGM says this:

Two bonus CDs present the band’s first gig as Discipline, from an audio restored bootleg at Moles Club Bath & the unreleased live album that was prepared from the Frejus tapes, with the additional recordings from that concert also included

so that makes things a bit better, they claim the final shows from each tour take up only 4 discs the japan show is 86 minutes on download but maybe if you cut out the 3 minute frippertronics tape opening and some of the applause you could get it down to one disc.

This MUST have been discussed before, but what is this:

1 cd containing edited and expanded of sessions for the abandoned third album

Is this like the KC version of Tull's "Chateau D'Isaster?"

the 135 price on DGM is the discount price and looks like burning shed gets some exclusive prints added so seems burning shed is the easy winner this time around for my order.
