Just got mine today and it has the codes. I downloaded both in FLAC and MP3 - I used the MP3s for the phone.

Yes, you do! They continue to cover new ground. Crazy to think I've been a fan of these guys for thirty years.

Good grief! I didn't realize they had been around thirty years.

when Firepool came out, I bought it and after a few listens I went back to Ed at Round Sounds and said "what else do these guys have?!"

I then bought both The Ritual Continues and No Commercial Potential, the latter of which was cassette only
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Man... I should do my homework.

I've meant to dig into their stuff but have felt intimidated by their catalog. Would the new one be a good place to start?

I remember Ed. He used to send me sampler cassettes to try and aid purchase decisions. I probably still have them. I think I stopped in and visited around Progfest '93 too.

In one sense: as good a place as any.

In personal sense: I started with The Devouring and branched out from there.

Same for me. The Devouring was the jump in point. They fell off my radar for a while but this new one caught my ear.

The Devouring was just 'album of the week' at Cuneiform bandcamp sales. It is also my first Djam Karet and I really like it. A nice mix of Crimson and Floyd.

    The Devouring (1997)
    Reflections from the Firepool (1989)
    Burning the Hard City (1991)
    Live at Orion (1999)

    "Instant fan recipe" right there!

I'd add New Dark Age and its companion disc Ascension. In fact, this newest release reminds a bit of Ascension, aesthetically speaking.

I love Ascension. I figured we'd win him over with some of the hi-octane D'jams and then plunge him into that one, Suspension & Displacement, and The Trip.

I started with "Reflections" and really hated the drum sounds. If I'm not mistaken, it was monotonous programmed drumming and I never pursued the band any further. Sounds like the newest one may be the way to get back into the band?

hmmm... must be thinkin of another band. DK has always had a real drummer who plays many fills

I just gave the whole disc a solid spin. It sounds to me that Gayle Ellet brought in a bunch of stuff that would otherwise find itself on a Fernwood album. The mix of exotic acoustic instruments and DK's signature electric space is a good mix.

I'm another big fan of Ascension! It is probably my favorite Djam Karet.

And... here's an example of the drumming on Reflections from the Firepool...

Maybe the 'drum machine' record was Magellan's first??

However that was two years after Firepool...

And the two bands could not be further apart sonically.

Cool, those will be the first on my list.

Burning the Hard City and Suspension & Displacement were the follow-ups to Reflections from the Firepool. What they did was effectively split their sound in half and put all the hard-rockers on BtHC and all the spacey ambience on S&D. So I say decide which flavor you want to pursue first, or get them at the same time.

    Sonic Celluloid
    The Devouring
    A Night for Baku
    Live at Orion
    The New Dark Age
    Burning the Hard City
    Recollection Harvest

Real drumkit. Real drummer. Chuck Oken, jr. plays synths and has indeed programmed electronic rhythms on various albums, but he's a drummer.
