My fav is Gates of Delirium by Yes.
It's a beautiful, chaotic, well structured, always fascinating epic song with amazing slide-guitars, noisy keys, so fast with mellow Soon section as a pleasant contrast aswell.

Solar Music by Grobschnitt
Still on frequent rotation at my place (especially the live version), while the well-known others are dormant for at least 20-25 years.

my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
H'mmm, hard call ... I think I have to go with "Gates of Delerium" also.
Cobra handling and cocaine use are a bad mix.
A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers
Hell, they ain't even old-timey ! - Homer Stokes
Since I only have a DL version of this song, I don't know if it would/does take up a whole album/CD side but....Underfall Yard is my new favorite "grand Epic"
....followed closely by: Gates, A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers,.....Damn, Ikon is a really good pick too.
Hmmm....
Second's Out
Nine Feet Underground
Close To The Edge
Birdman
so difficult to choose...
"Always ready with the ray of sunshine"
Iron Butterfly..............In A Gadda Da Vida. Seeing that "Thick As A Brick" and "A Passion Play" are both two sides, so they wouldn't fall under the parameters.
I'll have to follow Svetonio's lead and go with GoD as well...
-=Will you stand by me against the cold night, or are you afraid of the ice?=-
Procol Harum, "In Held Twas..."
Quiksilver Messenger Service 'Who Do You Love'...
Ommadawn - Mike Oldfield
Hergest Ridge - Mike Oldfield
Song Of Scheherazade- Renaissance

I'm sure I could change my mind at any time, but for right now I'll go with TD's Force Majeure.
[My fav is Gates of Delirium by Yes.]
Yep, that's my all time favorite as well followed by SR and CTTE.
Honorable mentions:
All of the above (Transatlantic)
Nine feet underground (Caravan)
Eruption (Focus)
Change (Magic Pie)
I probably don't have to name the band with these:
Tarkus
Echoes
Dogs
Ritual
The revealing science of god
2112
Hemispheres
Sidelong song? Thick as a Brick, Side 1.
"And your little sister's immaculate virginity wings away on the bony shoulders of a young horse named George who stole surreptitiously into her geography revision."
Occasional musical musings on https://darkelffile.blogspot.com/
Maybe Supper's Ready (23 minutes is an LP side, regardless of whether or not they shoehorned something else in front of it)
I'm stuck.
"Echoes" or "Close to the Edge"
My first reaction was, "Close to the Edge," hands down. But then, for sentimental reasons, "Echoes" is dear to my heart.
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world.
