I've hated Apple ever since I encountered iTunes.

    Gee, never had this problem.

Glad I don't use any music streaming or music cloud features.

Apple music did this on my iPad before I could get that feature disabled. Fortunately those music files were backed up on another source and no Apple product has access to my main stash of music files.

I can understand why Apple does this. Doesn't make it right, but from a business standpoint it does make sense.

Pretty funny article. Can't say I have any sympathies for people who trust all their stuff to something like this. You might as well box up all your physical product in boxes, drop it off in some ghetto and ask a perfect stranger to "hold on to this for me" for a while.

That was a good article, especially near the end when the author pushes forward the logical end of the information service business model. If they could, they'd copyright a pop hook and charge you for every time you thought about it.

I've never been sold on the streaming model. As silly as buying a CD, loading it onto a hard drive so I can hear a compressed file on a mobile device, and then squirreling the CD away, at least I have a fairly durable back-up.

This is why I hate it when people say "Just stream it! Use a Cloud! It'll be fine!!"

I buy CDs and will continue to buy CDs. I can download them to any device I wish, whenever I wish, and do not require a "by your leave" from anyone.

Saw this on the web "iTunes is like having your hand held by a robot who wants to walk into the ocean and die."

Hard to see how it makes any kind of business sense to steal, micromanage and cut off the customers' own property.

I listened to An Apple a Day last night, so I'm a bit disappointed that this thread is not about the band.

I have friends and family that live in metropolitan areas that stream music from the cloud all the time. However, none of them are what I would call "serious" about music. I know there's a few PE members that do stream from services like Apple Music. I assume that they keep this atrocity away from their digital music collections. As for me, I live in a very rural area where the signal can bottom out driving anywhere. Not to mention I'm a control freak that likes to play what I want to play, in what order, and with no music service substituting what it thinks I want to hear. Like I said before, one of our devices got totally wiped by Apple Music when the damn thing installed itself.

I wouldn't touch this thing with a ten foot pole. There's another forum I belong to and there's a lot of tales of Apple Music wiping away alternative tracks, things it doesn't recognize, substituting the wrong album artwork...in other words every conceivable nightmare for a serious music fan. What gets me is that Jobs was pushing this digital snake oil while going home to listen to music on a turntable.

I have over 1,000 CDs, all are burned to multiple hard drives, and I use streaming services.

Still can't figure out what I would gain from iTunes. I hear nothing but complaints about it all the time.

Well, you haven't heard a complaint from me about it.

I don't feel everyone should use iTunes. If it works for you to use another app, go for it.

I have enjoyed my Apple products since I started purchasing them in 1998 -- iBooks (2), iSight (1), MacBook Pro (1), iMacs (3), and iPods (4), and many more. I've never had problems with iTunes and it definitely doesn't slow my computer down.
