We're trying something new.
It might - or might not - work, but we'll run with it for a short while before making a decision:
A second album will sometimes be posted at the top of the page, next to the "Featured CD". This will be for any NEW RELEASES that we would like to bring to your attention - for whatever reason.
FEATURED CDs are always albums that have been around for some time. That way - people have heard them, have formulated opinions, and are able to contribute well formed thoughts to the discussion. So new releases are only discussed in the general pages of PE. That's what the forum is for, of course, but we thought it might be nice to "feature" a new release from time to time.
The potential problem here is that we might be flooded with every artist, label, promoter or fan asking for their newest album to be featured - and we'll have a hard time deciding what to feature, and what not to feature.
The potential benefit is that new music can quickly be brought to members' attention, and those early-adopters who have heard the music can share their early opinions.
We'll try this for a while, and if it doesn't work, we reserve the right to pull the feature without ceremony or announcement. A few considerations:
Unlike the FEATURED CD, discussion threads about these albums will NOT be on the main board. They will be in the "What's On / What's New" forum.
Unlike the FEATURED CD, the discussion thread will not be a "sticky".
NEW RELEASES will be featured in the page header for 3 days or less.
If you want to submit a CD for consideration: you will need to do the following - or the CD will not be featured:
- Post a new thread about the CD in the "What's On / What's New" forum.
- Let me know via PM that you'd like it to be featured.
- In that PM, I will need the URL of the discussion thread, and the URL of a picture of the album cover.
- We will queue the requests in the order they arrived - no exceptions.
- Don't flood us with new requests
- Don't ask us to do the legwork of finding a picture of the cover art, or starting the thread.
- Expect the new release to be featured for between 1 and 3 days. There is NO set rule for this other than demand, and the admins' availability to post them. (Remember - we have day jobs!)
- Don't be pissed off if your request doesn't materialize as a featured new release.
Despite the possible problems we foresee - we truly hope this new feature works, and adds value to your experiences here on PE, and that it helps to support one of PE's key purposes which is to share information about progressive music.
