    The Necks Free Improv

The Necks are a piano trio from Australia, a description that says nothing about their music. Since their debut album, Sex, in 1989, the group has specialized in a brand of intuitive improvisation, building up their compositions from zero as they orchestrate their sound live. We talk to The Necks about music from nothing tonight on Echoes. http://wp.me/p4ZE0X-6qa

It says quite a lot about Australian music - and your ignorance of it. The Necks emerged from a thriving jazz scene in Sydney that had been experimenting with minimal textures for years before Sex was released.

How in the hell does what John said in any way make him "ignorant"? There's nothing in what John wrote that is contrary to them "emerging from a thriving jazz scene in Sydney".

Seen them twice recently, excellent both times. Great band.

Pack up your faux outrage and read my post. I did not call him ignorant, I said he was ignorant of Australian music. Of course you could argue that his distancing The Necks from Australian music SHOULD involve some knowledge of the subject, and that it's ignorant to do one without the other. But that's not what I wrote. In fact, it's not a standard I'd set. If having knowledge about a topic was a prerequisite for posting on it threads here would be shorter.

Yadda, yadda. The only thing he "distanced" them from is the expectation one forms in their mind when they hear piano trio.

A typically intelligent response from you. Carry on.

Does it matter that this waste of time is what makes a life for you?
