There seem to be a lot of people using Firesticks these days, but I have a TV with Roku built-in. I also have a Roku stick thing which is useful when travelling - you can plug it into a hotel-room TV and have all your channels, which I assume people must do with their Firesticks as well.
Is there some advantage to using a Firestick? (We do have Amazon Prime). BTW, I believe there has been some content lately exclusive to Roku which was pretty good. I assume you can install the Roku app on a Firestick? With Roku, I've never seen any mention of having a certain amount of apps on it. I have a bunch of crappy apps I installed but never bothered to remove (channels with free movies that suck pretty bad).
You can install The Roku Channel on the firestick but that Rokus free movie / TV channel not roku itself.
Think of firestick and roku like portable operating systems that have program's that allow you to access content.

I know, I just said app instead of channel. Because it IS an app you use to watch the Roku channel. Back when smart TVs were still pretty new, they used the term "app" for all those...apps, be they for watching a channel, a weather widget, a generic web-surfing widget, etc. Just old terminology.
Exactly - so there is likely difference in content btwn the two.
As a NYC boy
I use fubotv on the firestick to get NYC OTA channels plus its the only streaming service that has both MSG for Isles and SNY for Mets. And I get some of the 'standard' old skool cable channel (e.g. History, HGTV, Food Network).
Excluding stick cost, internet+fubo is cheaper than straight spectrum or optimum per month.

Hmm, I don't know that I'd checked Fubo out before. Unfortunately, no CNN or TCM, which are deal breakers for us. Also, why ABC and CBS, but not NBC? When you say NYC OTA channels: I see My 9, which I guess is WOR, but not local FOX 5 (AKA WNEW) or WPIX 11? What OTA channels do you mean. I think it's a bit more expensive than Sling, but maybe not? Maybe not since it includes DVR. One to keep an eye on, anyway.
The only thing I dont get is CW
I CBS, NBC, Fox, ABC, My 9
yeah no CNN, but I like BBC World News best anyways
