Yeah, it seems to me that Krieger's van has had a couple Rush themes. I love these references. Adam Reed, the show's creator/writer claims to be a HUGE Rush fan.
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

I laughed out loud when I saw the Fly by Night owl on his van. (The reference flew over the head of my friend watching it, and who introduced me to Archer. He’s mainly a classical music fan.)

I laugh out loud at this show a lot.

Ha! I didn't know that, though he should have alot of self humour if of all the bizarre charachters he chose the sickest one to be a Rush fan

I've watched it a handful of times. The Burt Reynolds episode I thought was hilarious. There were a couple of others I thought was pretty good. A couple weeks ago I turned it on, and they had a shot for shot recreation of the Magnum PI opening credits, with the Archer characters in place of the Magnum characters, of course. I thought that was pretty funny.

Thanks. Really didn't need another television show to watch with Rush references but I guess I'll have to start watching now.

How did Rush become hip again? I guess it makes sense but it's still hard to comprehend.

It's actually been going on for 15 years now. There was a short lived show called Freaks And Geeks, where one of the "freaks" was a Peart disciple. The kid is eventually informed by a friend's father (played by Joe Flaherty, who actually is friends with Neil, Alex and Geddy) that "Neil Peart couldn't drum his way out of a wet paper sack. The father then proceeds to introduce the boy to Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich.

There was also an episode of Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law, where Phil Ken Seven raises the law firm's alert level to "the cover of Rush's seminal 1981 album Moving Pictures". Later in the episode, the show is interrupted briefly to remind us that "we are currently at alert level Moving Pictures".

There was also at least one Rush allusion on That 70's Show, where Red finds out that Eric borrowed the car without permission because he left the radio on. The next time the car is started up, you hear a bit of Temples Of Syrinx blasting out of the radio. There were copious other music allusions on that show, too (same with Freaks And Geeks).

But I think what happened was that, like with most rock groups of the 60's-80's, the fans have grown up, with apparently an inordinate number of them having gone into the television/movie industry. Hence, you've got someone who grew up a Styx fan or a Rush fan or whatever, so when he's given carte blanch to do whatever he wants in a movie or a TV show, he sticks in stuff about his favorite bands.

It even happens with TV comercials. Anyone remember the car advert where the two guys are driving around listening to Mr. Roboto? Or the Geico ad with Peter Frampton punctuating a woman's story of how her car got damaged in a crash with a talkbox guitar licks? Just as there were ads in the early 80's that used showtunes, now there's ads that use all sorts of rock things (much to my own annoyance, but I guess that's my cross to bear).

GG, yeah, I kinda know of Freaks and Geeks as I have the box set. That show was so damned real, to me, as I lived through a lot of that. A bit of almost every character in that show and what they went through, I did also at the same time.

I did get egged on Halloween. It's almost a prideful thing to me these days as it was fictionalized in that show and I realized that many others had gone through that or similar situations.

(You knew this was coming) - BUT, it still is hard to recognize Rush, and being a Rush fan, as cool. Possibly it's because I never was cool and never will be. Some weird mental block like Steve Blass or whatever. I get it, I've watched the documentary, Steven Colbert and all that, but in this reality it really doesn't make sense.

It shouldn't have happened. This world doesn't work this way where a band can give a album to a record company and they can't do anything about it except accept it.

Master of alliteration, yo - In Jesse's voice and I win the internet for that reference.

I really do think parallel universes are leaking into ours and the whole Rush thing never really happened. It's possible I have some reality issues to deal with.
