I blame Wynton, what was the question?
There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
MO - but I like them both, a lot.

Mahavishnu by a slight margin.
And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell
WR. MO always seemed flashy for flash's sake to me.
Until 1972 it is a tie. After that year - WR.

Since neither one are Progressive Rock, I'd go with Boxcar Willie.
1st two MO records were pure combustion... WR had some great moments, but sometimes also sported a real lightweight and corny late 70's / to mid 80's sheen.
I'll take Miles Davis over either.
But I suppose between these two, I'd go for Weather Report because they seem a little less...I don't want to say noodle-y but I think Weather Report, at least on the first couple albums (the only ones I have) seemed less inclined towards "hey look at me, I'm a virtuoso!" style playing/composition.
Maha's first string of 5 albums is stellar,
while TBH, the only WR I really appreciate is the Vitous-era (3 albums plus de double live in Tokyo).... Yeah, the Alf Johson era is OK too, but nothing worth championning
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
MO, especially the early ones.
WR is hard. Like their stuff, but Live in Tokyo and what was before that, not much. Had Live in Tokyo and after giving it 4 spins, I gave it away. Absolutlely not my cup of tea and not worth of my time.
MO, but I love both.
