Thread: Pink Floyd at Pompeii - Director's Cut DVD

I was on 4 hits of acid when I first saw this at a friends house on VHS back in 1989 (with the audio coming through a quite good high end stereo system, at high volume). At the time, I had never heard any of the songs they performed on it (though I'd certainly heard Dark Side Of The Moon, of course). Needless to say, none of the subsequent viewings have lived up in any way to that first one, in any of the released formats (even watching it a few days later, the same VHS copy at the same house......I wondered what had happened to all those special effects I'd seen the first time, lol)

I have never seen the DVD release, though I still have a VHS copy I bought in the 90's which is just the same as the one I saw in 1989. I don't have a VCR to watch it with though, sadly.

I was in Pompeii last week - I could have shot some footage if I'd known.

With 'One Of These Days' basically all of it focusses on Nick Mason! I'm guessing it was always this way.

Maben's 'new' footage is unwatchable for me. What a shame.
There was a showing of the film(last year I believe) witch was a new print plus an entire hour of the BW footage that was filmed of the band talking and such. From what I remember reading Maben was gonna maybe release it all on Blu ray but who knows how long that will take,if ever.

It's worth noting that only Echoes, A Saucerful Of Secrets and One Of These Days were shot in Pompeii. The other songs were shot in a studio sometime after the fact (notice that Rick Wright is clean shaven during the Set The Controls..., Careful With That Axe..., and Mademoiselle Nobs sequences).

    Note on versions :

    1) shown at 1972 Edinburgh Film Festival = 55 minutes, just the Pompeii/Boulogne footage; the TRUE original film (imho)

    2) 1974 : 80-minute version with "Dark Side" studio footage added, what many consider the original edit, but I respectfully disagree...

    Interesting interview with Maben... http://www.brain-damage.co.uk/other-...h-brain-d.html

...who mentions that there is a wealth of AUDIO outtakes worthy of release... If only !!!
