I'm not lazy. I just work so fast I'm always done.
RIP to a man responsible for many jazz converts.

I tried on numerous occasions to get into his stuff (even earlier this week)...but just never worked for me. --Peter

Pure magic. It doesn't get any more progressive than this .
It's getting depressing even logging on here lately....WAY too many musical greats leaving us in droves.
RIP Cat man
RIP
Never bought any of his albums but I heard some of his stuff back in the 70s.
I know him mostly from Carla Bley albums. He was one of a kind. RIP.
Rest in peace.

Loved his Fenix album. RIP!
His cover of Santana's "Europa" was ubiquitous on Philly radio in the 80's and 90s, as several stations featured smooth jazz segments and eventually the all-smooth-jazz formatted station.
What a shame. An old pal of mine was a big fan. I was just listening to some of his newer tunes. So sad...
Same thing here. I know him mostly from Escalator over the Hill, where he solos over quite a large portion of the first track. Carla seemed to need somebody with that over-the-top sound in her band - after Gato moved on, she found and hired Gary Valente, whose trombone was even more so.
