I never miss Uli when he comes to town. I really like Andy Timmons and he appears to be the opener at the show I'm going to.
I'm sitting in an Uli Jon Roth concert right now!!! St. Charles IL show.
I attended the Feb. 27 show in Orlando. Great show! I also recommend buying his 'Scorpions revisited' double cd which I bought at the gig. Here's the photo album: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1&l=3cd6a96083
Andy Timmons was incredible. I got his Sgt.Pepper cd
He's so versatile and reminds me at times of several other guitarists like Eric Johnson but has his own style. Jennifer Batten is on the bill too and very good but overshadowed by Uli and Andy. Now I just need to see Michael Schenker live and I'll be happy. My 70s guitar heroes.
Is he singing?
I attended this show in Atlanta, but attendance wasn't as expected. I think he cut it short, and that was disappointing, but a great show indeed.
It was 5 hours and 20 minutes in St. Charles Saturday night. They decided they needed an opening band before the two regular openers to the show. I skipped the lady player just because I needed a break from the guitar madness. The whole concert was WAY too loud. Uli had two other guitarists on stage with him that tripled up most of the guitar solos, and the sound was so thick you couldn't hear the vocals that well. It was great when Uli was unaccompanied though, Fly To The Rainbow was awesome. The fans were the worst, most annoying and intrusive, I have ever experienced. I couldn't enjoy the first hour of Uli's set because the fans could not calm down their excitement and reframe from telling me how much they loved Uli, had to get close to him, and one guy tried to swindle me into trading my 6th row seat with his further back seat for an autograph from Michael Schenker. During the show, I kid you not.
Got to meet Uli after the show and he was a great, very personable, guy. It made it worthwhile, but will be the last heavy metal show I ever go to. It was a bucket list thing for my guilty pleasure of being a lifelong 70's Scorpion's fan.
Wow. I was there well over 5 hrs. with getting there early and waiting to meet him after, so it was a really long night, but for me sooo worth it. Yes, it was too loud at times, and the vocals frequently got lost in the mix-and the lead vocalist had a really strong voice, but I expected that. David Klosinski, the really young back up guitarist for Uli opened the show with Uli's band for one song that was killer, and showed his chops. then andy timmons, who blew me away with his very tasty and versatile set and again playing with Uli's bassist and drummer who were both top notch. He played a full hour! then Jennifer Batten, who also has some great chops, and is very versatile, but she played with backing tracks instead of a band that kinda gave her performance the cheese factor, but her ending medley-The history of Guitar-was magical. probably over 40 song snipets, and she nailed every one. Then Uli! First song was an Electric sun instrumental, followed by all old Scorpions songs except for one sky of Avalon tune, and the two Hendrix encores with Andy and Jennifer. Definitely one of the loudest concerts I've ever been to, and more than a few times distorted, but for the most part, Uli's sols were soaring, clean, and perfect. Highlights:Sails of Charon, Catch A Train, We'll burn The sky, In Trance and the amazing 15min. or so version of little Wing! I've never been to a G3 show, but i have to say this is ever bit as good or better than most of them. To hear the old Scorpion songs sound this good after all those years played by the original guitarist was quite unbelievable-cause we'll never hear them by the current Scorpions!
He was playing in Chicago on Sunday, but I had to get back to Cleveland because I had to work on Monday. And Uli's not coming to Cleveland, so...
I saw him a couple times around 10-12 years ago. Great shows, both times.
You will love Andy live. He really surprised me. i have checked out his solo stuff since online, and he seems to shred more on those than He did live. He's just soo versatile, and his tone is so distinct. I was expecting Uli to blow me away, and He did, but Andy jsut kinda came out of the blue, and I love that when i discover new artists live like that. Reminds me off when i saw Joe Bonamassa back in 2009 when most haven't heard of him and he did starship Trooper.
Andy Timmons is one of my favorite guitarists.Missed the show in Detroit because I was in Mexico but I suggest people to buy his album called The Spoken and Unspoken to start with ( which I bought as a Amazon suggestion ). The album is a masterpiece . A combination of tone, chops and melody. If you get a chance to see him with Simon Phillips and Protocal ,you will not be disappointed
