I compiled all the TMZ reports on the death of Garry Shandling. I waited a few days to post this as I know some here scoff at the mention of TMZ… even though their facts within their RIP announcements end up being verified as true so many times…

    GARRY SHANDLING DEAD AT 66

Comedian Garry Shandling died at an L.A. area hospital on Thursday ... TMZ has learned.

The 66-year-old star was not suffering from any illness ... as far as we know ... so, it appears this was sudden. A source connected to Shandling says he was healthy and speaking to people on Thursday morning.

Our source says there was a 911 call from "The Larry Sanders Show" star's home, and he was transported to the hospital. We're told Shandling was alive when he arrived at the hospital.

    UPDATE:

1:44 PM PT -- Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ Shandling died from a massive heart attack, with no prior warning whatsoever.

GARRY SHANDLING HE MADE THE 911 CALL ... BUT FELL UNCONSCIOUS

Garry Shandling made the 911 call himself, telling the dispatcher he was experiencing a severe medical emergency ... but he never made it through the call.

Sources connected to Shandling and familiar with the situation tell us, in the middle of the 911 call the comedian lapsed into unconsciousness.

Paramedics were dispatched and we're told when they arrived no one answered so they had to kick in the door.

As we reported, our sources say it appears Shandling died Thursday of a massive heart attack.

GARRY SHANDLING SIGNS OF DISTRESS NIGHT BEFORE DEATH

Garry Shandling was feeling bad the night before he died, and he was making plans to go to the ER Thursday afternoon.

Sources connected with the comedian tell TMZ ... he spoke with a doctor friend of his Wednesday late afternoon, complaining he was not feeling well. The doctor was concerned enough that he came to Shandling's home and checked him out.

Garry complained he was achy and short of breath. He did not complain of chest pains. The doctor told Garry if he was not feeling well the next day he should go to the ER to check it out. Garry said if he wasn't feeling better he'd probably go sometime Thursday afternoon.

In a recent appearance on Jerry Seinfeld's "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee," Shandling cracked a joke about having hyperparathyroidism ... which, according to the Mayo Clinic, can lead to cardiovascular disease.

GARRY SHANDLING MISSED LIFESAVING HELP BY MINUTES

Garry Shandling was minutes from leaving his home for the hospital -- where he could have been saved -- before he collapsed and died.

Sources familiar with the situation tell us, a doctor/friend called Garry at 10 AM Thursday -- a half-hour before the heart attack -- to check up on him. As we reported, the doctor went to Garry's house the day before after the comedian complained of shortness of breath and achiness.

When the doctor called Thursday, Garry said he was still experiencing discomfort and shortness of breath. Our sources say the doctor told Garry to immediately go to the ER.

Paramedics arrived at Garry's home at around 10:45 AM -- after he collapsed during a 911 call -- and they saw a car from a limo service parked in front. We're told the limo was there to take Garry to a nearby hospital, but Garry missed the potentially lifesaving trip by minutes.

GARRY SHANDLING DOCTOR REFUSES TO SIGN DEATH CERTIFICATE Coroner Launches Investigation

Garry Shandling has been dead for nearly 48 hours, but his death certificate has not been signed, because we've learned his doctor refuses to do so.

Our sources say Garry's primary physician has repeatedly refused to sign because he has no idea how or why his patient died. The doctor says he hadn't seen Shandling in more than a year and as far as he knew Garry was in good heath.

The doctor's refusal to sign triggered an official death investigation by the L.A. County Coroner, who will now officially determine cause of death.
We're told the coroner's investigators have already taken blood work from the ER where Shandling was pronounced dead. The investigators have also subpoenaed records from the doctor.

As we reported, people familiar with the situation tell us Shandling died from a massive heart attack.

To one of the funniest people ever: Thanks for all the laughs, and rest in peace.

I've been thinking about the Larry Sanders show and how many great moments there were. Gene Siskel fighting John Ritter, Hank vs. Elvis Costello, Warren Zevon getting pissed about having to sing "Werewolves of London", Hank's porn tape, Larry's paranoia about how big his ass is, Larry's paranoia about everything, David Duchovny crossing his legs while wearing a robe, Carol Burnett's line about seeing Larry's balls, and on and on...

Whoops. My bad. Well they were around the same time period so I guess I got confused.

Yeah. And vaguely creepy too. The apparent clustering around the arts. Just timing, i'm sure. But so sad and unfortunate.

Not to mention pretty much everything Artie did and said... well, ever.

Man, that show was one stone-cold classic--I'd say the greatest sitcom of the 90s; only Seinfeld could have competed if it hadn't gone to shit in the last few years. I give TLLS the edge for its ability to go seriously dark and fucked-up without ever getting less hilarious, plus the willingness to bow out with a great ending at the right time instead of dragging out too long.

I've never seen It's Garry's Show. Anyone have a quick description of how it compares?

A lot lighter than the Sanders show and more than a little surreal. Brilliant stuff but it did not prepare us for the onslaught that was Larry, Artie, and Hank.

I would have fit Hank's Sex Tape into that list but man, that's a lot of great comedy in there.

It was groundbreaking. It was a sort of surreal meta-comedy show. His life with you as an observer. Quirky, fun and uniformly brilliant. Here's the theme song. This is a perfect introduction for you what you experience:

    Garry talks about mortality:

Ricky Gervais (whose comedy reminds me a lot of him) interviews Garry:

I don't think I ever watched the show. Not sure why - I remember hearing the theme song a lot.

Thanks. I have no idea why, but I've always been only dimly aware of that one and have no idea when I would have gotten around to checking it out on my own.
