(Ok, I admit I only wanted to be able to say "Phife Dawg"... Never heard of him.)

Phife Dawg... We hardly knew ye....
Still alive and well...
Great and pioneering hip-hop trio that always distanced themselves from the "gangsta'" style so prevalent at the time . . .
Huge loss for hip hop & American popular music as a whole. Love their blend of socially conscious lyrics, humor, with a dash of jazz influence & clever use of sampling.
They truly were pioneering. That's why I get so angry when people say "rap is easy" "anyone can do it" "Takes no talent" etc.
Glad someone made a thread; I was going to make one myself. RIP dude. A Tribe Called Quest were one of the first rap groups to sample jazz records. Certainly one of the better hip-hop acts and I loved the interplay between Q-Tip and Phife. The Low End Theory is one of the best rap albums ever.
The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off
Another 2016 death I wasn't expecting. The first three A Tribe Called Quest albums are absolute classics and jazzy hip-hop at its best. RIP Phife.
So you started an RIP thread for someone you didn't know and didn't care about. Can we think twice (or 3 times) before starting threads like these? Thanks.
WANTED: Sig-worthy quote.
