The version with 2 books for the first book, with a total of over 1600 pages.

Yep, It's amazing that it's so voluminous and ends at the end of 1962!!!

I cannot wait for the other volumes. Hopefully, Lewisohn got enough out of George Martin before his demise.

Wow. I don't even know what to say. GM was great for his sympathetic approach to the Beatles' music. He encouraged them to make the music they wanted to make and he was, without a doubt, their biggest fan. He introduced the Beatles to classical music embellishments and the rest is history.

After his stint with the fabs was over, Sir George went on to found AIR studios in London where the bulk of seventies' Procol albums were recorded, amongst other great artists, having employed many great ex EMI alumni.

    RIP.

I think it's safe to say that his efforts & talents all made us a bit better in that we benefited from the fruits of his labors. It's a good time to re-visit some of them & make us more appreciative of what we have.

Haven't seen the Anthology in a while. Maybe it's time to see it again (for like the 50th time). His scenes are some of the best in that documentary. What a life this man had. RIP.

Agreed. I could watch/listen to him for hours sitting at the Abbey Road desk isolating instruments from the multi-tracks... And, among other things, working out that it has to be George H playing (6-string) bass on "Golden Slumbers" because it's on the basic take and can't possibly Paul since he's playing the piano... Priceless stuff.

Yeah, I couldn't find it on YT but I wanted to post the bit of him at the desk playing John's demo of "A Day in the Life". To see him -- after all he's accomplished -- STILL get a chill up his spine hearing John's voice on that recording was priceless.

Nothing beats the Anthology. No matter which volume, it's riveting and makes it very difficult to walk away.

This should be of interest to folks here. The NYT has put together a page detailing George Martin's role in every Beatles song ever recorded. It also details whether or not outside musicians were used (I had no idea how prevalent they became to Beatles music around 1966). Anyways, pretty interesting stuff.

Granted, it's in the context of marketing, but comments are welcome.
