    Recommendations for a friend

A buddy of mine has asked for for some recommendations based on what he's currently listening to:-

    Steven Wilson – 4 ˝ / Hand.Cannot.Erase
    Lemon Jelly – Lost Horizons
Go Go Penguin – Man Made Object/v2.0
    David Bowie – Blackstar
    Vessels - Dilate

He's historically been a hard rock / metal listener.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

    Porcupine Tree
    Rush
    Pain of Salvation
    Dream Theater (maybe)
    Maybe some darker prog metal

Doesn't he like all the RIO stuff you do? I'm sure you have mentioned them to him by now(Univers Zero, Present, Guapo, Magma etc).

As a hard rock listener, does he know Queens Of The Stoneage?

Very good modern hard rock, IMO.

We go on a boys drinking weekend every year & I'll typically play my ipod on shuffle in his car on the way over so he's been exposed to a fair amount of my stuff over the years. He likes some of the mainstream stuff but can't stand the fusion (too noodly), spacey stuff ala Ozrics (wheres the tune?)or the avant stuff (Henry Cow, UZ, etc). Over the last decade he's probably opened up to more of it.

I'm thinking Anekdoten, Discipline, Echolyn, the minimalist techno & GoGo Penguins opens lots of options

Good list. I would not add Opeth, but perhaps Sanguine Hum - based on your initial roster up there.
