I went to fb for animal rights purposes, within those many groups I discovered a band and this band opened a whole new world for me, moozik exists! Real MUSIC and that brought me to PA and many so more radio stations inc. fm stations that play prog music I cannot complain really. I do stay days away from fb tho'
I bet you say that to all the guys

my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
Sonia, you could think about re-writing Billy Idol. "Ass Without A Face".

I'm also still friends on Facebook with most of the missing PEers mentioned above.
I've monitored the membership stats for a long time. Over the years, there's been a very consistent turnover in membership - including the vocal characters, and the more silent members. Some say there was a big drop-off after we moved to PEv3. Not true. It was just attrition at the normal rate, and many of the members mentioned above had quit before we changed over.
I definitely miss some of those older characters. We had fun times with them both online and at various festivals.
With others ... I'm very happy that we no longer have to put up with their BS, and spend hours monitoring their posts to moderate them.

Duncan
I totally agree with Duncan on all of that!
And like I said before...
Nobody is going to hang around here forever anyway and aren't expected to. One's love of prog talk on the net peaks and wanes.
The only ones I don't get are the ones that walk away feeling angry about their stay here. After all, it's only words.... How many scars you gonna get talking prog anyway? None unless you have skin that is prone to bruising because it's thin. Then again, I am sure every instance is unique so I could be overlooking something obvious and I'm sorry if anyone went away bruised. We hope everyone has a good time here, but we can't promise it.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?
There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
After reading the WHOLE thread - a few more comments:
Several people mentioned in this thread are still very much around, and active on Facebook, where I'm still friends with them:
Pulling snippets about them from the posts above:
- Olias
- Peter Thelen's, who had LighthouseKeeper in his name, except there's another LighthouseKeeper
- There was a woman who lived in Scotland, whose username was Uschi, but I think she was German
- When's the last time Lynnette (The Red Masque) posted?
- I remember Rick and Roll. He had a radio show
- She was from New Jersey, very, very popular, was always up front in those group photos of Nearfest, and I remember she was a moderator for a while.
- There was this other British (or whatever) girl that hung out for a while. I think she was friends with Goddess/Sarah.
Her name was Carla. She was The Beard's partner, not Sara/Goddess.
- Da Mid West Gang ... Magog, Dale, Desdinova, Uncle Norm
- Luis occasionally pops up spitting bile & Rich Poston posts now and then
- Likewise, Roddenberry, the esteemed monsieur Dansereau
- Anyone remember Kenny Soloman?
Walt Nektroid. I had drinks with him at his local in 'Lauderdale about a year and a half ago. Vic2012 ... probably the same pub you went to?
- Too Tall is still well and good leaving a glorious green cloud...
- ErogenousZone. Good dude.
- What about Laura In Space, the cello player who liked Banco?
- I liked Avestin as well.
One of the best people we had on PE!
- What about Floyd
- Raymond D does occasionally still post, as does Adewolf.
- Nurse Progtitioner, Greg Lake fan
...Among others...

@Jim
CHAIN - you've been too quiet for too long! Good to "see you" here - I hope all is well!
I don't. Long story.
Yes - and it started here, on PE. It went so far that I've been to the police about this individual, had phone numbers blocked on my home phone and all cell phones, implemented bans on PE and PE's Facebook page, put a block on Facebook, and more...
It's entirely probable that I've "dissed" people by ignoring their friend requests.
Facebook uses real names, but I am not always able to associate that with a PE screen name.

Duncan
The Alehouse in Pembroke Pines? I might pop up there during football season this year just to see if he's still around.Walt Nektroid. I had drinks with him at his local in 'Lauderdale about a year and a half ago. Vic2012 ... probably the same pub you went to?

So perhaps you see the wisdom of NOT using one's real name now.....
Yep. This place is still one of my favorite sites to be a member of. I will say that I think it was a bit more "lively" 10 years ago but weren't we all?
I would like to get in touch with Vinnie, Ed, Scott, Scott and the other Scott, Alex Dewolfe, Suppers_Ready, Hughes, FFloyd (What is Prog?), Lynnette, Lino, and the rest of the old NEARfest crew and those of us who were part of The SFC private thread. I will check with Sara (Goddess) as we are friends on FB along with Kid Runningfox (If I can get him to stop ranting about British politics for a few moments).
Good times they was to be sure.
This is true. I keep up with friends and family on FB but I spend more time blocking just about every news org that suddenly appears on my page. I am going to take your advice about cookies purge. Thanks for that one.
I do not know any of their last names. I'll check with Sara I guess.
Thanks " One of the Scotts "
